Opposition to the proposed AKC judging approval process

I oppose the proposal

Judges need to have ongoing "continuing education" as well as a regular evaluation. The judges evaluation system should be monitored by AKC employees specifically trained for this purpose. This would look similar to "teacher" Continuing Education and Evaluations. Probationary judges should be evaluated two times in the first year. Successful evaluations for the first year would graduate the Judge to once yearly evaluations. Evaluations which reveal problems would cause the Judge to be evaluated at least one additional time per year until the Judge had two consecutive positive evaluations. There are many among the fancy with education backgrounds who would be glad to work on such a program.

Who thinks that taking accountability away from judges is a good idea? Accountability in life is one of the most important aspects of being human. If the authors of this proposal felt that in general judges are doing a good job, why would they care about being critiqued? Under the proposed judging policy changes the only people at the show responsible for their actions are the handlers.

Eliminating AKC Reps will not solve the issues

I strongly oppose the proposed AKC judging approval process. Approving more judges will not guarantee adding knowledgeable judges. Consistent ability must be evaluated by individuals who also possess the ability and experience to do so. To preserve our sport AKC has a duty to provide a staff who are professional, knowledgeable, as well as passionately aware of their responsibilities.

Judges don't seem to care about whether or not a dog is too big or too small. Too many dogs that should be DQ'd for size are put up. They not only get their CH, but also GCH, Bronze GCH, Silver GCH, etc. These judges need to be educated and DQ dogs that the breed standard says should be DQd

This is definitely a detriment to the sport. We need to make things better and challenging not just let everyone judge. That will not improve the sport!

I think written critiques of each dog would improve AKC conformation judging tremendously. Plus, it gives the handler/breeder good feedback on how well their breeding program compares to the standard.

AKC get real!! Do you really believe these new policies will actually result in more, better qualified and knowledgable judges?

Doctors, lawyers and real judges are required to have ongoing continuing education.
