August 2013: Not only did Governor Cuomo’s bill privatize LIPA by turning the company over to New Jersey’s PSEG, it also included a rate freeze for 2013, 2014, and 2015. “There are few things in life that are not going up, and to have a three-year rate freeze is really significant,” Cuomo said last week.

My previous email went flying before I finished. What I am saying is that I cannot afford the cost of living and the electric and gas for my home with my income cut in half with the death of my husband. PSEG promised they would not raise their rates, and, of course, a rate increase is almost the 1st thing they have done.

Between the National Grid and PSEG our rates are the highest in the nation and unaffordable to the middle-man which is fast becoming the poor in America. My husband died a little over a year ago, I have had a double mastectomy and now have bone cancer. I still work, out of necessity.

The rates are high enough the taxpapers living on Long Island cannot afford to pay these high rates anymore.

As an Executive for a mid-sized company, we struggle with the Costs on LI, with utility costs being a significant cost item to our operations. Further rate increases will have a significant impact on our competitiveness and ability to retain jobs on LI.
