Oppose the conversion of 1140 W Wilson Ave for Cornerstone's expansion

Stop Building Shelters in Uptown! There are too many!!

I have a condo 2 blocks from this coming disaster. We have enough shelters in the area.

Please find a new location, this will cause more harm to this areas ecosystem

Please find another ward for this endeavor. Uptown has the largest share of this type of housing by far. I support a thriving business community along Wilson Ave. Uptown should not always be the choice for this type of housing.

I love that our neighborhood helps the unhoused. I dislike that our neighborhood seems to be the only one helping.

NO we do NOT need another shelter..

This is a very bad idea. We don't need a (another!) shelter on a major retail corridor that is already struggling to stay alive after COVID. We need real investment in our neighborhood.

We have so many shelters already. We can’t be the only Ward taking people in.

That is the strategy of the game --- move fast at jamming this project through before the community can mount opposition. This is why sharing this petition with the community and writing letters to Ald. Clay is so important.

It doesn't. The survey was open for 2 weeks during the holidays, and it was only announced via Clay's newsletter and subsequent news releases. The survey skews heavily toward those closely connected with the project -- CCO employees, Clay's office & connections, and the JPUSA church commune. I work in survey research, and those results have more in common with this iPetition than a real community study. For Clay to publish the results without acknoleding this is dishonest at best.

Alderman Clay, I urge you to have the courage to stand up for what is best for the Uptown neighborhood and not be blinded by a poorly managed proposal that includes things like, "we will make plans for how to handle this later", which is what I heard directly from Cornerstone at the meeting. And although legally a separate entity, the Jesus people will be tenants in the free commercial space Cornerstone will now have power over. Running businesses that are in direct competition to existing businesses in this location. As Cornerstone said in the community meeting, they will decide who is a good tenant for the existing businesses and would of course put Jesus People businesses in there. Alderman Clay, I believe you are being duped and I hope you find the courage to stand up for what's right here and that is to say "no" to this proposal

This project seems so rushed without addressing the concerns of the public and the businesses that already occupy the building. I do not see any evidence that addresses the prevention of any potential negative impact on building and business safety and insurance.

making the loud, dirty, heavily-trafficked area near the wilson stop MORE unwelcome to visitors is not a good idea. there is already too-heavy a concentration of homeless and migrant shelters and transitional housing in uptown... not to mention the misuse of TIF.

I find it hard to believe the results of the alderperson survey show so many for this project. I hope we can have some transparency.

Please use this as an opportunity to get started on the right foot.

Listen to your constituents on this one!! The neighborhood deserves better. O

We live a few doors from the proposed site. We are proud to be an economically diverse neighborhood that cares for people down on their luck but believe it is a terrible idea to concentrate so many shelters in such a small area and to put it literally footsteps from a bar. Please reconsider this idea.
