Oppose the conversion of 1140 W Wilson Ave for Cornerstone's expansion

I'm all for helping out but I don't understand why our community has to do so at a level that's disproportionate with surrounding neighborhoods.

Uptown is a wonderfully diverse part of the city. We love that people from all economic backgrounds can live together. But we also love business and this zoning change would adversely impact our fledgling business community.

Please do not open up another shelter in the area. This is going to hurt local businesses.

I do not want another transition shelter in my neighborhood. Other neighborhoods should do their part. Uptown should not be used soley a depot for the unhoused and mentally ill.

I have been a resident of Uptown for more than 10 years and feel unsafe raising my kids and having my mother live in a neighborhood that already has so many rehab clinics and shelters and doesn't need a men's shelter. This is bad for Uptown and bad for our community. The city is huge and there are so many other areas where this shelter can go. Uptown is already cluttered with shelters.

Please do not allow this transitional shelter to come to one of the key areas of developing the 46th ward into a higher foot traffic, profitable business district. There are already enough such shelters nearby.

Shame on this Helen Schiller stooge.

I've met with Alder Clay and Cornerstone and they do NOT care about community safety and depressing property values. How can anyone think putting a shelter above a 4:00AM bar is a good idea? Why displace all of the folks who live there now and need affordable housing? This plan is grossly negligent, it does not put the community first, and it will hurt the retail spaces. There 77 neighborhoods in Chicago, why is Alder Clay allowing 4 shelters in less than a one-block radius in Uptown? Enough is enough!

I live within a few blocks of this proposal. Who thought it would be a good idea to put transitional housing above a bar with a late license (or any bar)? 2 Bears is a good addition to the Wilson street scape and this proposal is asking for trouble. I urge you to find other spaces to meet this critical need.

I am extremely opposed to proposed transitional housing at 1140 W. Wilson.

I have been a resident in Uptown for 10 years and I have seen a lot change in my neighborhood. I want this to be a vibrant and safe neighborhood. I am against the proposed shelter at 1140 W Wilson for a few reasons. A shelter at this location would kill all of the economic progress made these last few years. To put a shelter right in the middle of our signature street would do so much damage to the restaurants and stores near there. Not to mention there are already 3 shelters within walking distance of 1140 W Wilson. I know that homelessness is a problem in our community but progress can only be made with the help of others. Please reach out to neighboring alderpersons and the city of Chicago for help. Concentrating shelters in our neighborhood will only harm Uptown and persons affected by homelessness in the long run. Please, please, please I urge you to reconsider what you are planning to do at 1140 W Wilson.

There has not been enough public debate and input from other stakeholders in the building.

A shelter above a bar seems like a terrible idea and just asking for trouble. So help me god if this causes one of the best neighborhood bars to close….

TIF funds should be used for community improvement. Homeless residents should be given permanent housing not more temporary housing and it should not replace the housing of current residents. It defeats the purpose of ensuring everyone has housing. The new Sarah’s circle building should've been made to be mixed use. It was a sorely missed opportunity. We need more mixed use buildings so that more than rent is paying for the maintenance and prosperity of that building. Every new building should be mixed use imo. We should focus funds on building up our local economy (thus reducing poverty) and not focus our neighborhood funds on a city-wide issue. The city as a whole is better equipped and better funded and should be more active with ending homelessness than any neighborhood. Adding shelters does not resolve homelessness, these people need permanent housing and we should place them into permanent housing FIRST and send case workers to resolve other issues following placement. This money would be spent on a “solution” that doesn’t solve anything.

As a member of the LGBTQ community, putting in danger of closing one of the best LGBTQ bars in Uptown seems like the wrong way to go in Uptown. We can't be "Uptown proud" and actively put our limited spaces in jeopardy

I’d like to know more about how these TIF funds are being spent. This does not seem appropriate.

As a concerned resident of uptown, please do not approve the zoning change at 1140 W. Wilson.

When will we learn?

I vote no to the shelter on Wilson.
