Tell the City of Belmont you oppose the draft Housing Element: don't dump on eastern Belmont!

There are already ~450 units being built on OCR. Assuming an average of 2 per unit the proposal is to increase that by about 4x. Not to mention allowing relative skyscrapers of 6 stories along OCR, overlooking Sterling Downs. How can anyone propose all of this without being able to see the problems? Oh, it's not their "problem", that's how. The retort is "it won't all be built at once". But whether it happens tomorrow or the next day it doesn't matter, it will be bad for anyone living east of El Camino.

I oppose large and unequal housing development in Belmont.
Like most Belmont residents, I chose to settle here for the kind of life that Belmont has always offered. I'd rather pay more in taxes than accept the congestion that this plan would surely bring. (That’s how bad an idea the development plan is.)
It feels like we are trading the long-term future of Belmont for short term dollars from the state. That’s not good governance.
Why rush development now? Bay area corporations are just starting to realize that they can hire much of their talent from anywhere. That’s a game changer! This proposal needs to go back to the drawing board.
I always vote. Your position on this issue matters more to me than any other issue that has come before the Council in the past 20 years.

Fully support Belmont doing its fair share to increase all types of housing stock in the state. However, this should be done equitably and spread, to the extent possible across all city neighborhoods.

I strongly recommended equally distribution of housing across Belmont than what is proposed.

I am not against affordable housing just don’t put a building that big in an impacted neighborhood with no parking as down the street we have a federal building the post office that operates 6 days a week- I see east Belmont being railroaded yet again
I have a whole lot to say and much of it isn’t positive about how the city is just giving lip service to the residents of Sterling Downs/East Belmont
Three story max with the first level retail (taxes for the city) with the second and third stories housing - there are many other plots of land to distribute the housing share in a much more equitable manner!

I feel strongly that new housing developments in Belmont be spread equally & equitably across the city rather than concentrated in eastern Belmont alone.

This proposal would result in a huge increase of Belmont's population. This is NOT worth the State's money. Why are we turning our open suburb into a high-density city? If we must expand, expand OUT, not UP. Preserve our neighborhood's character!
1) What traffic improvements will be required along Old County with the influx of trips along Old County?
2) What parking ratio will be required per dwelling unit?
3) What mitigation measures will be put in place to keep the high density users from flooding our residential streets with overflow parking?

Downtown and East Belmont are not ready for the giant building plan, in all aspects such as traffic, parking, police. Please take the steps slowly and evenly distribute the sites.

It would be helpful to know where all the thousands of people who housing is being built for are coming from!

The planned housing project will result in major traffic problems that will impact Ralston, a major road. There needs to be more due diligence on ways to solve this including finding a more suitable location.

It is a misconceived idea . I feel betrayed that such a major change is being made workout proper consultation with the residents. Belmont is not going to be same as it was when I had moved in.

Housing must be spread across Belmont. East Belmont does not have the infrastructure to absorb the proposed housing.

Limiting this type of development to one area of town is inequitable. There are many viable sites on the West Side. Traffic is already subject to gridlock on the East Side.

Not necessary to add housing in East Belmont. Six stories is too high.

Where is the mitigation for parking, traffic, parks, and schools? Why is it fine to put 6 story apartment complexes in eastern Belmont but not in Western Belmont? This plan is highly inequitable.
