​Petition Opposing the ATX City Council Giving Away $278 Million in Our Taxes to Wealthy Developers

If elected officials with the CoA and taxpayers haven't figured out that development will come to Austin, regardless of incentives, we are truly not as intelligent as we thought. Stop this insanity.

We don't need to provide this subsidy for the development to happen. It's time developers paid ALL of the costs of development instead of simply reaping all the profits

This type of development takes the lake and recreation areas away from the public. More traffic, more parking issues, more restrictions, and all the things we love downtown are being removed. We need a lot of things, but this isn't one of them.

There are innumerable things things this money could support, beginning with the homeless crisis. Who exactly are you working for?

If you don't build it, they will still come anyway.

I am generally opposed to cities providing subsidies or tax incentives to private entities. Austin is a growing city, but we have some serious growing pains (inadequate infrastructure, EMS, police. Not to mention homelessness, unreliable water and electrical supply. There needs to be a robust and reliable foundation for the city before we "lure" private development with our tax $.

This is prime land and developers don't need my tax dollars to make a profit. Enough with the give aways.

Do not give tax breaks to private developers

If the COA would use the $278M from the TIRZ and reallocate the $118M for more bikeways, that would cover $396M of the $530M the COA wants to spend on homelessness relief. Or, as you say, fund parks and libraries. It’s simple math: not hard to calculate.

Our tax dollars should not be spent on ANY resort, that money can go towards actually helping homeless and single parents, our elderly! What is going on here? You guys know better than this!

If 2021 was the year of inflation, 2022 will be a year of rising interest rates and harder times challenging these taxpayer subsidized growth rackets.
