​Petition Opposing the ATX City Council Giving Away $278 Million in Our Taxes to Wealthy Developers

Let the wealthy pay for what they receive directly. Taxpayer dollars must go for maintenance and public safety in currently taxed and underserved areas.

If not these developers, then others will certainly develop this property without using tax dollars. Austin's already a hot market and we don't need a tax-subsidized catalyst to promote development. Development is already happening.

I need to hear really solid, honest answers as to the benefits to Taxpayers to help fund this

I do not wish my tax dollars to be used to pad the profit margins of real estate developers. The developers see the value in this property, and they are going to develop here regardless of whether the city offers incentives to them. If the city argues that by giving these handouts they will receive higher returned on tax revenue, I would challenge that assertion by saying if the developers simply charge more for the property they build and sell, that creates a higher tax base to tax. Win win (don't give away money and tax on a higher basis). Do the right thing here Austin - stop the giveaways. It's not necessary to draw more people and investment into the city. Instead put the money into improving the city for the people who are coming regardless. We need to invest in our city, not in the pockets of a few developers.

Let's send the City a loud and clear message, "Austinites do not want TIRZ to move forward." No more giveaways to developers at the expense of hard working taxpayers.

Property tax giveaways for luxury developments owned by wealthy investors will only help make Austin more unaffordable. The two terms “property tax giveaways” and “luxury developments” should never appear in the same sentence, when we’re talking about “freebies” for the already-well-heeled. Makes no sense. A definite “NO” to this tax giveaway proposal! How about fixing our water treatment problem instead????

This money should be used for public needs, Maybe police, fire and EMS.

I am sick and tired of the City of Austin, Travis County and State of Texas paying for Corporate welfare with our tax dollars! Essentially, it's the same as paying bribe money. This has gone on for much too long. It should have never begun! It's way past time for it to end.

Private developers will make plenty of profit. They do not need our tax dollars!

Absolutely in favor of the big guys paying their fair share. There are much better uses for that money than giving it to developers.
