​Petition Opposing the ATX City Council Giving Away $278 Million in Our Taxes to Wealthy Developers

I OPPOSE AUSTIN COUNCIL GIVEAWAY $278M TAXES TO PRIVATE DEVELOPERS. AUSTIN SHOULD BUY THE SCWF AND PERMANENTLY TURN IT INTO A PARK. ZILKER, MONTOPOLIS, DICK NICHOLS, COMMUNITY PARK, WILDFLOWER CENTER, THEY ALL GET CROWDED W/ TRAFFIC, INSUFFICIENT PARKING, INSUFFICIENT SPACE, RUNOFF FROM IMPERVIOUS COVER, AND POLLUTION. PARKS AREN'T KEEPING UP WITH AUSTIN'S GROWTH!!

This private development will happen regardless of whether the city gives the developers $278 million through a TIRZ. So why give away tax money needed for public facilities and services?

We need more parks not more high rise buildings blocking out the sunshine and worsening traffic problems.

Do NOT give our tax dollars away to private developers. Keep them for projects that benefit our public works here in Austin. Our property taxes are already exorbitant --- do not make it worse by slapping us in the face and givng our tax dollars away to private developers.

When INFLATION is skyrocketing, and governmental leaders are already making bad decisions, and crime and homelessness is up, and we're being taxed out of our homes, why would we want to establish more government spending and giveaways??? We say NO!

SCWF should fund it's own private development!! The city has not shown, and cannot show, that these massive public tax subsidies are necessary for the private developers to redevelop this massive, luxury project. $278 million would no longer be available for libraries, parks, affordable housing, and other public needs. Therefore, we the undersigned call on the Austin City Council to reject the SCWF TIRZ and oppose giving away our hard-earned tax dollars.

Let's use the money in ways that benefit all Austinites, not just developers and wealthy condo seekers.

We must hold officials accountable. No more wasteful spending!!!

The only way to slow down the madness of Austin growth, and to afford the amenities that make (made) the city what it is (was) is to insist that developers pay the full freight: they should pay for all infrastructure that their development requires, including upgrades to existing infrastructure that will be needed to accommodate the increased traffic their development will cause. We the public should NOT be forced to subsidize development. This development, in particular, will make Town Lake look like a fishing pond, completing the ruin of the visual amenity of the lake.

Be a good corporate citizen and pay your fair share!!!

This isn’t what property taxes should be spent on. A fiscally sound decision would be to invest in city services and infrastructure, not an idea that will cause more clutter and traffic.

Real estate on LB Lake in downtown Austin doesn't need tax giveaways from the Austin City Council to be developed. Tell the developers to take it to some other city and I'll bet they'll magically find that $278 million. When is the City Council going to actually do something to improve Austin? We have plenty of issues, many caused by the same council, that would benefit from this tax money.

We need to spend our precious tax dollars more wisely.

City of Austin needs to stop giving tax breaks to large corporations or billionaires and start helping the people who have made Austin awesome be able to afford to stay here. 78751
