Oppose Ebenhaezer Boat move to Bathurst Basin

A shameless attempt by the council to push out a longstanding resident in favour of gentrifying the centre.

The Ebenhaezer is a beautiful boat that adds to the aesthetic of the Bristol Harbour. Why move it to be replaced with unmemorable bars or shops, something the waterfront already has loads of. This is just a shameless measure to gentrify the city centre by the Council, a big developer has come in and is trying to push someone out that has lived there for years.

I am aware of the significant and prolonged distress caused to the owner occupier of this boat over many years of being pressurised to re-locate against their will to enable the development of yet more unwanted bars/restaurants. Re-location of the Ebenhaezer to Bathurst Basin was rejected earlier in this saga and the grounds that supported that decision clearly remain with residents and boat owners of Bathurst Basin believing this move to be wholly impractical, inappropriate and raising safety concerns.

I am a recreational boat user who enjoys visiting Bathhurst Basin, I also value the community of families who live and work on the water. Bristol does not need any more waterfront bars and restaurants. The pressure that the owner of Ebenhaezer has been put under by BCC to move has gone on for too long and is completely unreasonable. The boat is far too big for Bathhurst and should be left where it is.

This boat is huge and is also a residential vessel. As such this proposed move is totally inappropriate.

I agree that it is inappropriate to move the Ebenhaezer to Bathurst Basin, it is too big and will impact on the use of the basin and seems to go against the council's own policies. It seems bizarre to subject the owners of Ebenhaezer to such harassment and stress just to add more bars and restaurants when we see many of them struggling to continue in this market.

This heavy-handed, incompetent and unnecessary action by BCC

It appears that Bristol council has no concept of the size of this boat or how it will fit into Bathurst Basin. Furthermore, the Ebenhaezer is residential and Bathurst Basin is a marina and unsuitable for residential boats.

Bathurst Basin is a totally unsuitable place for the relocation of the large houseboat Ebenezer. The sole purpose of the relocation is so that the warehouse on Welsh Back can be replaced by bars and restaurants as per the planning application. This is inappropriate for at least two reasons. There are very many such facilities already around the Harbourside. Recent events in retail are showing that the hospitality retail trade is over-supplied and businesses are starting to fail. A more important reason for stopping this move, is that Welsh Back is an important historical location in Bristol, related to its growth in maritime trade, but also to Bristol's strong links with the slave trade. There is strong support for the alternative proposal, for the warehouse to be preserved and converted to an interpretation centre and Abolition Shed, to provide citizens of Bristol and tourists with insight into Bristol's past involvement in the slave trade. Bristol City Council has a responsibility to preserve such a historic building and to restore the balance of our understanding of Bristol's role in the sugar and tobacco trades. It is surprising that Councillors and officials are neglecting their duty in this respect, and opposing the alternative proposal. The proposal to move the Ebenezer to Bathurst Basin should be stopped.

I want to object to this huge inappropriate vessel being moved into the Bathurst basin. It is too big. It will make moving other boats in anď out very difficult. All the investment in the beautiful surrounding buildings will be a waste. The residents overlooking the Basin do not want it. No one on the water wants it.

This site is crucial to Bristol's presentation of its past, if Ebenhaezer is lost, so will the opportunity for O & M Sheds to be reused as a memorial to the victims of enslavement (with associated Interpretation Centre). It's a prime key location unrivalled in its capacity to tell this vital aspect of Bristol's past. On the very river that was a conduit for the vile trade for a 1000 years.

I have already objected to this proposal, on the grounds that the vessel is far too big for Bathurst Basin, would impede entry and exit of other boats, and would be berthed contrary to Bristol City Council's own berthing regulations.

The Ebenhaezer is too big for the basin. Bathurst Basin is designated as a leisure mooring area and not a residential boating area by the City Council, so they are contradicting their own policy. It would be better to leave the Ebenhaezer on the main harbour, where there are other similarly sized boats.

This proposal to move the Ebenhaezer against the owners will is absurd. The boat would not fit in to the recently rejuvenated basin which attracts many tourists. The boats would be unable to navigate. It would be more appropriate for the developer to design a premiss that accommodates the Ebenhaezer as it is fitting mooring for a boat of that size.

Bristol does NOT need more restaurants. There are already loads in that neighbourhood.

The vessel is unsuited to Bathurst Basin.,It is likely to obstruct navigation for existing users of the Basin. It is being required to move against its owners will. The move is not required for Harbour Operational reasons and appears to be against the recommendations of the Harbour Officer according to planning appeal decisions . The move is to facilitate property development by BCC but appears to be unchecked by any usual procedures requiring planning permission, Harbour navigational requirements or listed building (ie Harbour Walls) consents. BCC needs to look carefully at its procedures on this issue before reaching any final decisions.

This boat is too big for such a small and historic marina. It will spoil the view and it doesn't make sense to move it when there are other places in the floating harbour that are better suited for such a vessel.
