Oppose Ebenhaezer Boat move to Bathurst Basin

the council has been bullying the owners of Ebenhaezer for years now. The only reason they want them moved is so developers can build yet another bar on Welsh Back. It's entirely inappropriate to move such a large vessel in Bath Basin.

This would unfairly displace people

I think it is outrageous the way the council have treated the family of the houseboat with threats and intimation. They have bullied them into this move away from a residential houseboat community into a non-residential area because they have done a deal with the developer. The council have gone back on their agreement with this houseboat which begs the question CAN WE TRUST THE COUNCIL AND THEIR WORD TO LOOK AFTER THE CITIZENS OF BRISTOL. What does the Mayor think who pledged to look in to bullying have to say about this?

There seems to have been systematic bullying of the owner. We should investigate the financial motivation of the council in this regards. An abolition museum would be a much better option.

Inappropriate massing, I think the planners would call it and a backward step after all the work on the General which has greatly improved the area

I feel this is the wrong location for the boat to be moored. There must be somewhere more appropriate if the boat must be moved.

There are plenty other spots this boat can go in, there is no need to go into Bathurst Basin.

This boat is far too big to go into the basin. It would be a real eyesore and destroy the whole feel of the area.

I agree with all that the petition says. In addition I add that many of the buildings around the Basin are Listed as is the John Sebastian ship, and as are the Harbour walls. The current clear space is also valuable for young children learning under supervision to handle boats, canoes etc. Like wise moving the John Sebastian around for valuable maintnenance. No room for the Ebenhaezer.

I don't think this boat should be located in the basin due to its size and its impact on local residents, businesses and boat owners.

Bathurst Basin is not appropriate for residential boats, and the Ebenhaezer is not an appropriate size for this small basin.

Proposed move would destroy character of basin

The proposed site to move Ebenhaezer is not suitable for mooring. The boat in question is wholly inappropriate for Bathurst Basin. Its move will be damaging to the existing boats, residents, commercial properties and the community. The General development has converted a derelict building in to desirable location in Bristol. Moving Ebenhaezer could undo all the investment in to this area.

The Ebenhaezer is much too big to be moored in Bathurst Basin. Applying basic planning rules the presence of the boat should be opposed due to overbearing, not in keeping with the marina and having a significant effect on the local environment. Additionally the Council has surely learned that allowing floating restaurants in close proximity to each other is a hazard. Haven’t enough young men died in the harbour area in the last few years? Welsh Back has an abundance, if not a surfeit, of restaurants both floating and fixed. Bathurst is an elegant and attractive backwater and deserves protection from this huge boat. I object in the strongest of terms.

Not a good idea to move the Ebenhaezer here. It’s too big.

Extract from Objection Letter dated 25 Feb 2018: The Ebenheazer’s length-size will present a static eyesore impacting on the enjoyment of the Basin by its residential neighbours and businesses, obscuring and detracting from Bristol’s maritime heritage that should be preserved and is indeed protected under BCC’s Core Strategy, specifically BCS22. It will also impact upon the commercial success of the restaurants that offer al fresco dining and/or similar and positive regeneration which should be thought through and considered, accommodating all views, not just that of Cordwell Property Group Ltd, BCC’s preferred developer, a developer that has consistently and reliably continued to submit Planning Applications that have failed and not included the subsequent recommendations made and expected by BCC Planning for Planning Applications to be re-submitted and then succeed. I concur with para. 2 of the Cabot Cruising Club’s (CCC) Appeal against Ref. 16/00828/F submitted by Paul Morris, Commodore for the Cabot Cruising Club. I believe the CCC is correct in its claim that “... it would be quite wrong and an abuse of [BCC] authority to move the Ebenheazer to Bathurst Basin without any consultation, planning approval or consideration of its obligations as Harbour Authority.” […] I do hope the Planning Inspectorate will fulfill its public duty to fully consult and/or consider the legitimacy of the numerous appeals (formal and informal) hitherto ignored by BCC and advance a fair and just solution and in turn restore faith in Bristol’s public officials and observance of Statute Law.

Totally out of keeping with the surrounding area. A right Blot on the Basin.
