Oppose Ebenhaezer Boat move to Bathurst Basin

I oppose the relocation of the houseboat as this is an historic site.

This is a unique and historic area of Bristol and it's heritage and should be retained intact without the addition of more restuarants etc. The sheds are historic dock side buildings and should be used to create a museum which should focus on the city's past links with the slave trade and as an educational resource.

Hello, I completely agree with you that the welfare of the boat owner is really important. As the originator of this petition I read every comment where I can. I don’t recall seeing any that showed a disregard for the boat owners welfare. It might just be they didn’t think about the glass boat impact. Clearly the houseboat should not be relocated and I am appalled at the council’s treatment of the boat family, there needs to be a proper independent investigation. People need to treated fairly and I would expect the council to ensure at the very least that the family are adequately compensated and not out of pocket.

There are so many reasons the relocation to Bathurst Basin is simple wrong, here are a few of the main issues: 1. Ebenhaezer is large and her berth will occupy more than 50% of the quay. 2. The mooring position will restrict the movement of and endanger other vessels in Bathurst Basin. 3. The Docks Policy confirms the proposed mooring as a “No Mooring” quay, the quays are not designated for residential use and would require a change in policy and planning consent. 4. Bathurst Basin for the past 50 years has been used only by recreational and leisure vessels but Ebenhaezer is a static residential houseboat and there is no residential planning consent. 5. The family on Ebenhaezer have no wish to move. 6. The residential houseboat (family home) would be overlooked and their privacy adversely affected by the restaurants and bars in Bathurst Basin which this relocation was supposed to protect in accordance with the buildings planning permission. 7. The family living on Ebenhaezer have since 2004 been constantly subjected to considerable abuse, bullying, harassment and threats by Bristol Council officers and directors. 8. The family have incurred considerable professional costs and lost of earnings over this period. The recent council notices and their legal defense are intended to force families debt even higher. 8. It is notable council and the developer (Cordwell) will profit from the development of restaurants with their bars but Ebenhaezer’s family will be left with significant debt. 9. The council director refuses to negotiate with the family and council offers to settle would not allow the family to continue working or living in the city centre and would not clear their past debts cause by the councils actions. 10. The develop O&M Sheds into restaurants & bars will adversely impact the immediate residential area in a city centre that already is swamped with an plethora of licenced premises.

After reading various comments including the comment from the boy who lives on the boat it appears the council have treated the family badly with bullying. I also think the houseboat would not suit Bathurst Basin and the council should not break their own policies. But I am concerned by the comments made by people from Bathurst and the hostility to a local resident and suggestions about moving a residentially family to behind the glass boat, how would they like to live in one of the worst areas for noise and late night activity not to mention the bands who play live music directly on this quay? I am shocked by their lack of compassion to a family who have already suffered.

Diana Taylor This is pure bullying by the council and should be stopped .This flies in the face of the Human Rights Act under which the protection of property gives every person the right to peaceful enjoyment of their possessions. It would also increase noise on Welsh back to the detriment of local residents.

the M and O shed should not be developed into another bar

This is pure bullying by Bristol Council for blatant commercial gain, ignoring both reason and intelligent, long term vision for sensitive and inlightened uses for buildings in the historic docks. This historic area should be developed to enhance day time commerce, tourism, and museums. The story of Bristol should be brought to life in museums of slavery, historic Bristol stories and castle history, heritage of shipping and trading, and the Wesleys. There should be much needed creative inner city housing for young people to sustain the local and city community. The city council has lost sight of the community value of the unique, historic city centre, an area of great charm, much of which has already been lost or defaced due to unintelligent, mindless development. The aim should be to preserve the character and produce a balance of housing, shopping and cultural heritage which would benefit local and international tourism and the city. This area should be an asset to the local residents and the whole city, great for daytime visitors, tourists and lunchtime shoppers. It should not be turned into a night time temple to alcohol and addiction. The current plan will remove local residents, destroy the nature of the area and create a desert by day. It will replace a unique, historic, inner city community with nightly scenes of rowdiness, drunkenness and street crime.

We really do not need another bar/club/restaurant. The council forceably removing boat owners is disgusting and not what we want as residents. We are fed up with Asb that the already overcrowded harbourside drinking establishments bring to our neighbourhood, we don't want any more!

I strongly oppose the obscene idea of having noisy, obstructive bars along welshback area by the houseboats. The residents suffer enough already.

The Ebebhaezer is too large for Bathurst Basin. There are several large stretches of water in the main harbour which would provide a mooring place for such a bulky vessel - or behind the Glass Boat.

There are many points on which the move of this boat to Bathurst Basin should not be accepted. One has to do with the cavalier attitude of the Council and Cordwell in proposing relocating a residential boat. This flies in the face of the Human Rights Act under which the protection of property gives every person the right to peaceful enjoyment of their possessions. The owner and occupiers of Ebenhaezer can hardly be deemed to have been able to exercise their right to peaceful enjoyment given they have been under pressure to move since at least 2015 for the convenience of commercial interests. This should not be accepted

This is appalling. Surely there are enough pizza bars and restaurants in the city centre.The Ebenaezer is a home and should not been pushed aside.

Boat is far to Big and will destroy the basin's current beauty

As well as the reasons given above, it should be recognised that this is just a Bristol City Council/Cordwell developer ruse to bypass the strong local objections (supported by BCC planning councillors) against building large unwelcome licensed premises in the Welshback residential area when there are much better community and tourist friendly uses for the O&M sheds where Ebenhaezer is moored, and should stay.
