Because horses graze on much of the area, it is largely clear. Mountain bikers, many who have little respect, will careen themselves in many directions. Bikes on Horse Hill = Bad Idea! Instead moire enforcement currently is needed to ticket the people who are violating the restrictions.

Please leave these trails free of bikers so that the animals are not driven away.

I oppose opening trails to accommodate bikers in strongest possible terms. Horse Hill remains one of a few natural habitats unfettered by development and vehicle access. Yes, bikes are vehicles. Their access will destroy trails where where horses graze, threaten plant species, and ruin the peaceful silence of this pristine land. The explosion of biking population in Marin has impacted every MUP and most hiking trail in the county. Let there remain ONE PLACE where trail-goers aren't startled by noise and speed of cyclists, jumping aside to let them pass. Marin citizens worked decades, donated funds to preserve this area--protect habitat of horses and plant-life. We hike and picnic on those trails. For supervisors to now expose this area to harm is a massive breech of trust. As elected officials, please respect the intent of citizens who worked tirelessly to protect intrusion on this small corner of Marin. Honor your stewardship.

I object strongly to the proposed cutting of a new multi-use trail through the open meadow adjacent to the Gasline Trail...FURTHER, I am totally opposed to changing the use of open space lands to accommodate recreational mountain bikers - they are on the whole rude - total in disregard of hikers - and feeling that they are Lance Armstrongs on a race track. Bikers and Hikers on the same trails is not safe - nor necessary.

No, Sheila. The MV Meadows HOA owns a piece of Horse Hill but not the part where the trail is and none of the Alto Bowl Open Space. The Marin County Open Space District owns all the parts where the bike coalitions want to convert the hiking/equestrian trails into multi-use trails and roads.

I thought Horse Hill and parts around were owned by the Scott Valley/Mill Valley Meadows HOA, no?

The Bob Middagh and Horse Hill trails traverse diverse habitats filled with unique plant and animal life. They have been open to hikers and equestrians for the forty years my wife and Ihave lived here. You can enjoy a special quality of solitude and scenic beauty there. Of all the trails we're familiar with under Marin County Open Space management, Bob Middagh and Horse Hill are the least likely candidates for bicycle traffic in my opinion, given the delicate nature of the terrain and its animal and plant communities.

I have been rudely spoken to by cyclists who are illegally using single track trails. One almost mowed me down. These are people who do not appreciate the beauty and silence of nature. They should be OFF single track trails. Even better, they should be off any unpaved road!!!

The picture of two bike tracks is worth a thousand words. Dozens of horses wandering Horse Hill over the years and not a hoofprint is visible in the photo, yet a few bikes have made lasting pizza-cutter tracks thru the grasses. Not good for the environment, let alone safety of other users.

I'm afraid to take my 6 year old son on the Bob Middagh trail in the Alto Bowl Open Space now that the mountain bikers have discovered it. They refuse to share the trail, and it's just too dangerous. Please keep the bikers on the trails and roads set aside for them and keep them off the pedestrian trails.

We need transparent process and full public outreach to area resident stakeholders if the Supervisors contemplate putting the Alto Bowl to new use. Please no backroom deals with the powerful mountain bike lobby.

Please do NOT change the use of this open space to allow bicycles. It would forever change the character of the preserve.

Horse Hill is for horses.
Roads are for wheeled vehicles, including cyclits
