This is special interests in the process of urbanizing Westerly . The Town Council, the Planning Board and the DDS thru our standing process of procedure out the window when they rewrote 2020-2040 Comprehensive Plan in in tandem with the Zoning Regulations update. All cloaked putting it in play during the pandemic, dismissing the taxpayers by ignoring the interests, needs and well being of Westerly's taxpayers.
What a Coup for a few land use attorneys and their developer clients including Mr Deep pockets who runs our Town in place of our elected officials, boards and committees .
The Comprehensive Plan was created to facilitate the Zoning Regulations update. And for what; more density, mixed use development, reduced set backs .,
residential development of 50' tall buildings in our wetlands abd established neighborhoods.......the forerunner of multi storied condominiums. for developers.

Single-family homes, stone walls, ample and safe sidewalks for strolling and running -- these are the qualities defining the residential neighborhood of East Avenue. Moore Woods provides a unique green space and land trust area directly across from the proposed subdivision at 165 East Avenue. This treasured place would be negatively affected by traffic. With over 20 residences planned for 165 East Avenue, possibly 40 new cars for residents will regularly flow along the Avenue. Add deliveries and visitors and the tranquility of the neighborhood is no longer. Lighting for the road within the proposed development will forever alter the evenings. And: the intersection of East Avenue with Beach St -- already extraordinarily challenging to navigate at times -- would see exponentially increased vehicular traffic and most definitely be at risk for more accidents. Finally, for those of us who live in the neighborhood, July and August tourist traffic renders East Avenue a virtual parking lot on certain weekends. Therefore, the consideration of 165 East Avenue for this sort of development is completely out of character with this section of the Town of Westerly, will challenge the residents of the area to maintain safe walking and jogging, will permanently alter the tranquil, safe access to Moore Woods and, at the last, is simply: unnecessary and excessive development for our Town.

It is important to protect open spaces. My mother Jean Scott Kenyon worked hard to protect the Avondale Trust—these spaces keep our town special. Thank you

I am against a development of this size in our quiet and peaceful neighborhood, which is presently made up of single family homes . This new development will cause traffic problems on the already busy East Avenue. As it is proposed, the sheer number if new constructions and new residents will cause a loss of peace, quiet and traffic safety, not to mention a loss of huge trees which will create erosion problems in the surrounding area.

It would be a shame to see that beautiful placed stone wall be bulldozed in favor of something more suitable for “affordable housing.” Agree that we should know how the developers define “affordable” before it is deemed so. More importantly, traffic is already an issue in town during summer months and Westerly is becoming more of a year round place to live so it will only increase. We need to know more before projects like this one are ushered through.

Increased traffic in a quiet residential area. 26 units times 2 cars each unit. Hubbard st is the first street to turn onto to get to Beach St. This should not be a high density neighborhood.
