Petition to Oppose the Proposed Temporary Emergency Shelter at 210 Pacific Avenue

This is a very inappropriate place to have this shelter built. I hope this is extensively reviewed and changed for the local residents and business owners

I also own Oyster Dental lab at 102 Wall Street and have 21 staff that are very concerned about safety in the area. We already have a problem with needles and homeless using our parking lot for drug use, public bathroom. I have installed cameras but that doesn’t help at all.

These shelters do not belong downtown.

Let's put more troubled people downtown to cause more crime. We need to set up an area 30km out of the city and rehabilitation out there and slowly reintroduce them to society.

I oppose the temporary or permanent homeless shelter being located downtown Saskatoon, specifically at 210 Pacific Ave

More thought and consideration needs to be given to this on top of that before making a decision. You need to include the community around you to get there by in or you will never get this sorted out.

These should never be around resident homes or Children and schools. This impacts people very much and needs to be reconsidered

We do not need this downtown ! It is not safe for visitors or shoppers! Constantly having people asking for money! As a woman I have avoided the downtown area because of the people always approaching you or your car for handouts ! If you say know you have to justify why you won't !

I'm all for finding shelter for the homeless this winter but 210 Pacific Avenue is not the right location. I am concerned for the safety of all the clients that visit the businesses, the people that work at the businesses and the ones who live in this area.

I'm in full support of shelters and services but this is NOT the area for it. This facility will be VERY close to children at the dance school as well as the businesses that take care of them; therefore, does NOT meet the qualifications of being located here.

please consider the safety of our staff, patients in early mornings & late nights.

I am in full support of providing a space for the homeless to reside, however, I have concerns with the choice to house them in this area. There are many businesses in this area, that work hard to serve the families of Saskatchewan. I'm sure you can recognize the extreme risks that will be presented to the children, dancers, patients, customers, and staff involved. I'd like to understand the reasoning behind the decision to house the homeless in this area and why it was given approval.

Anyone who is familiar with this block of downtown is aware that it is full of families and kids throughout each day of the week. The businesses here have worked extremely hard at providing safe spaces for family services for kids to enjoy, all while helping grow an area of downtown Saskatoon that often gets passed by. I watch parents taking kids in and out of the orthodontic office each day and walk past parents dropping kids off at dance classes in the afternoon. Amazingly enough, this area even contains a daycare so that kids can be close to their parents downtown during the workday. This unique area of downtown has been quietly serving families and kids for over a decade, and while I'm in full support of shelters and services, putting the homeless in this area isn't a wise decision. I can't help but think of all the vacant buildings that are currently open in our city and wonder how the decision to house people in this literal transit shed came to pass? We can do better for both groups, the kids and families and the people who need the supports.
