Opposition to declaring Robben Island Marine Protected Area

I am not a fisherman but find it disgusting that all the big players get away with murder and the little guys have to suffer the consequences. This is a typical example

I'm signing this petition completely for selfish reasons ... cos I love fishing at robben. HOWEVER... I'm not entirely convinced that its entirely a bad idea.

I am totally opposed to closing of fishing in the Table Bay area without there being any sound scientific reasoning for this.

An entire Marine retail industry will be under severe threat to survive.This decision will cost thousands of jobs in the W Cape

To close the area will not be wise. People are going to the Island for years. I am strongly against it.

I feel it's an outrage that the recreational fishermen have to suffer when they are not the reason for overfishing. Stop the illegal fishing and regulate the recreational. No problem.

I have been a member of OPBC most of my life and fishing recreationally in the area in question. I do not believe there should be an arbritrary exclusion, it will just push those who fish illegally further away but prevent those responsible fisherman from enjoying our coastline

This is ridiculous.

This area has seasonal migration of snoek & geelbek which lasts a month,other species hottentot and jackopever is residential. What I don't understand is that boats from Hermanus has been issued with perlemoen licences to catch at Robben Island.

Why so that they can protect the pollusion that they have not fixed for years

Spend the money of stopping the poachers in our Bay!

As a recreational fisherman and fishing our waters regularly. I do not see the reason for not allowing fishing round our island.

The pelagic fish that are caught in this area on not to frequent occasions do not breed there, they only arrive if condition are perfect.

I reject this ill conceived proposal. The real reasons for this proposal need to be investigated by the public protector!

I do not agree to this proposal. Again, taking food and income away from fishermamn who earn their livelyhood from the sea.
