What a slap in the face for women filmmakers ...MB IS NOT A WOMAN

Having Munroe, a Trans Identifying Male, speak for women or feminism is an insult. Women are still under-represented in the film industry and you give the speaking role to a male with no qualifications other than Identifying as a woman? Shame on you!

Way to go BFI, choosing a man in woman costume with no experience in the film industry. No one (other than trans women themselves) thinks that trans women are women yet you choose a trans woman to represent women. What you have done is to choose a man to speak for women. Things really haven't changed have they?

A woman with the same amount of film experience as Bergdorf wouldn’t get a look in.

A woman is an adult human female, not an idea in a man's head.

Completely agree. Your keynote speaker should surely embody the spirit of the summit. Female filmmakers are already continually ignored in terms of honours in the industry. The fact that you have organised a summit called 'Woman with a Movie Camera' and selected an inexperienced man to be the honorary representative is a huge slap in the face and speaks to the very heart of what male privilege is.

A ridiculous and deeply offensive decision from BFI.

This is supposed to be an event about women in film and is not the place to make or score "woke" points for transactivists. It is a wasted opportunity an affront to women (by which I mean females.) Way to go alienating your target audience!!

Ironically the documentary Bergdorf appeared in had a female director and a woman led production company. Yet Bergdorf refers to it as 'My documentary'.

Bergdorf is not a female. By all means hold an event for Trans in Film and ask a trans person to address it. But please don't take already scarce opportunities away from females. Also - Bergdorf doesn't work in film!

Yet another indication that films are about men's view of the world.

So instead of giving the opportunity to a woman with experience of being a film maker, you give it to someone who isn’t a film maker and you give it to someone who has and still continues to benefit from privilege naturally from being a point. But even if you disagree with my previous point, at the very least you could have made the point by giving it to a Transwoman who has actual experience in film making. Instead you give it to a very unpleasant person who has none.

I have to wonder, do women even exist anymore? We've always had to struggle for recognition against men now we're pushed aside in favor of men masquerading as women. Couldn't find any women making a career as film-makers??

I have worked long and hard in this industry and I have faced huge obstacles in my attempts to have my voice heard. I believe that this trend to appease trans people is damaging to women, especially in this sexist industry and the Bfi should be ashamed.

When asked to find a woman filmmaker for this event they decided on a person who is a) not a woman and b) not a film maker. This is how desperate they are not not give women a voice. Lucky that Munroe was available or they would have had to just tape a camera to a mannequin.

The invitation of a man to speak on behalf of women filmmakers smacks greatly of pandering. Give a real woman filmmaker a chance to speak!
