As someone who graduated from Franklin and is a current educator in New Orleans, I find this incident unacceptable. There need to be serious consequences for someone who believes they can use this word, especially in an educational setting.

Even without his response io an incendiary subject, this teacher should not be allowed in a Franklin classroom. He engaged in a shouting match, with no attempt to listen, understand or respond maturely.

The school needs to stop letting so many people get away with this kind of stuff.

I hope something is done about this disgusting act. It is a shame that a TEACHER; someone who is supposed to be a role model, motivate, inspire and lead his students, thinks it is okay to use a racial slur not just in the classroom, but at all. This man is supposed to affect positive change in the the community as a whole through his students and himself, but instead he CHOOSES to be ignorant. Choosing Ignorance closes doors on opportunities for change in the world or even positive change in a student's life, which defeats the whole purpose of a teacher.

We must require cultural empathy of our teachers. As an alumna, I am very disappointed in the passiveness the administration has displayed in dealing with this issue.

As a current student at Franklin, I am deeply disappointed and shocked with what happened today. I also cannot believe that is not the first time such an incident happened.

The use of this word cold easily be talked about an a manor that is not offensive. If replaced with its euphemism "n-word" you can avoid continuous situations like this happening again, but if im not mistaken this is the third time this year that this is happened? This is not the Franklin I know.

This is disgusting and the fact that the teacher would try to justify it? Nah.

So disappointed. HOWEVER, this is not the first time that we've had and issue like this. Coach Ryan is not the first teacher who has attempted to defend a non-black's (white person's specifically) use of the word. This is a reoccurring problem, and I cannot standby and allow this to continue hapenning year after year.

It's incredibly disappointing to see this, from an otherwise great school. I'm glad Franklin kids had the wherewithal to film everything and bring it up with the administration.

I believe coach ryan should be fired and I think that it's ridiculous that we have so many students who feel unsafe in their learning environment. Franklin prides itself on diversity, but I will be ashamed to be a franklin student if we let this go unpunished.
