Ontario MDs Concerned about Cuts

This may be the inciting factor to cause my retirement from the practice of medicine!

I have a US passport. If unilateral gov't cuts - and the culture it implies - continue I will simply head south. There is a precedent for this in the 80s/90s.

This complete disregard for the role of physicians in health care delivery in Ontario is unacceptable. Our OMA has been completely ineffective and our fees should be reevaluated and redirected to a better cause. We need to unite as a group and have our voice heard by the government and the public. Sadly job action is likely the way to go.

I attended the Special Council meeting in Dec/14 and even as a first time attendee, came up to the mic and asked the OMA to consider job action and taking a harder stance. Will the OMA finally take a stand now??

I'm very concerned that we don't have any rights in the eyes of the government. They keep handing out arbitrary cuts, selling it to the public and the OMA has made absolutely no progress at all other than sending us emails every few months that speak in vague terms of "exploring legal options."

Sad that Wynne will honour the contract to pay up to 100% bonuses to Pan Am executives, but when it comes to the physicians and surgeons who keep Ontarians healthy and alive, she sees fit to reneg on contract agreements and unilaterally take money back from us. This must be challenged at least for our dignity and to shine a light on the hypocrisy of this shamefully immoral government

As a physician myself working in an hospital for underserved population, the lates cut in fees is despicable. Physicians need the respect and patients need the care.

Maybe we should pay less OMA fees and put this money towards funding the health care system instead.

As an Emergency physician these cuts directly impact patient care - as we always seem to ultimately provide the safety net for any and all those who cannot access primary care. We are not the best skilled nor can we provide the continuity and preventive care that reduces overall health care costs.

Get the OMA Lawyers to do something about this NOW!

We hard working, still studying, dedicated to patients, keen physicians are paying for the gross economic Liberal mismanagement of the provincial Ontario economy. 11-12 billon in interest payments/ year & close to 300 billion in debt. All this debt from free spending Peterson , McGuinty, Wynne and Rae governments in a short span. Teachers have lost some sick days but have had small raises as well as OPP. Most departments have freezes but NOT cuts. They do not believe Drs will fight back. So far they are right about that. Teachers have no problem with the threat of inconveniencing Ontario students and families. I am not being critical of teachers but simply pointing out that most Drs will choose to do little in the face of denigration from the government. Will this time be any different?

Let the government know that we are important in health care!!! Time to engage and involve doctors and not act like dictators

Already, patient care is being affected because we are having to devote time and energy to fighting these unjust and short-sighted government decisions. It's time to put a stop to it now.

Apparently the OMA has a report that suggests: Canada has 1 health care bureaucrat for every 1,400 Canadians , Germany manages with 1: 15,000 Germans Germany has I doctor for every 300 Germans , Canada I: 470 Canadians. Can't for the life of me understand why the OMA doesn't publish this fact loudly to the public, to let them know just how skewed our health care system is.

I believe the Oma needs to respond aggressively to these arbitrary cuts Job action (without harming patients) is definitely warranted

Since we don't have a contract anymore and our only allowed employer is unilaterally imposing there own rules on us it is time to take legal action to allow us the option to opt out of the government plan. OMA should be fighting for our rights.

Doctors are being asked to work for free with clawbacks and we are doing the same work as 2012 but it is worth significantly less. We have no bargaining rights and the public couldn't care less. My husband and I are both physicians and we are seriously looking into moving elsewhere. Enough is enough!

Absolutely disgracful conduct by the Fiberals and a roll over and die inept response from the OMA! Job action now....
