Ontario MDs Concerned about Cuts

What this government is doing is wrong. It is not ethical and it is not just. It is bad not only for MDs but it will be bad for all Ontario citizens.

I did the majority of my medical training in Ontario. My family lives in Ontario. I intend to return to Ontario as a practicing specialist and I want to be able to provide my patients with the best care possible. Please, help us make this a reality! Involve Ontario physicians in fair negotiations over the future of healthcare!

Liberal government get back to the negotiating table now and bargain in good faith. Treat your doctors were the respect. There are numerous young doctors in Ontario who will leave to greener pastures as they are fed up with this toxic environment. This is no way to treat the medical professionals of this province who break their backs serving the population! I know of many physicians who already planning on packing up and leaving to other provinces or the USA- we all have families and livelihoods to maintain… We just want to practice in a place where we feel like were valued and there is stability in the future. We don't want this dark cloud of clawbacks and lack of transparency hanging over our heads. Even this recent announcement two weeks before implementation of cuts is utterly disrespectful!!!

Acquiescence today is tomorrow's health tragedy. We must act very aggressively to protect our future and our patient's futures from those whose future is measured with a short timeline of today ,tomorrow and next election. Aggressive action is long overdue!!!

I am so disappointed of our current government and the approach that I am willing to do just about anything to stop this. We need to stop it, it's our system, our patients and we clearly the government doesn't know what they're doing!

I am philosophically against reducing services that I and my patients feel are needed. But I do feel we need to escalate things against MOHLTC. Note I use the term "against" and not "with", as it seems unreasonable to think that MOH is really "wiyth" us any more, and OMA view should be the same.

Being forced into another brain drain.

I love my job and love working in Ontario. However, with all the cuts in Canada, with no power to make any changes, I do not see the end to this. Only when more physicians are leaving the system and patients start to complain will the government do anything. I hope it does not take more brain drain to the states for the government to make some changes.

Addiction medicine in rural Ontario just got cut severely. How am I to provide individualized care for addiction patients close to home while having lost 25% of my billing? Patients will need to travel to larger centres instead, costing the system thousands of dollars more in transportation costs (if they go at all).

This claw back is unlawful and unethical.

We desperately need some sort of job actions (even for 1 to 2 weeks) to make the government pay attention to us and the public to hear our concerns.

The govt needs to work with doctors in good faith to find system cost savings measures.

Job action should be drastic. If clawback is going to be 20% then lets start reducing services by 20% rright now. We wont be getting paid for that anyways.

The government has gone too far. They blew over two billion dollars on the gas plant and E-Health scandals and now expect us to help pay for their mistakes. I think we need to have a unified plan on some sort of job action.

If we don't get fair negotiations we will locum elsewhere in Canada. That's the point of national standards and the federal work from anywhere in Canada program introduced in 2010. It's that easy to work in Regina in St Johns or in Edmonton for a few months a year. Deal with that!
