One thing that the public must understand is that we are paid PUBLIC rates, but our costs (ie rent, staffing, supplies) are at PRIVATE rates, which continue to escalate. But what is more upsetting is the WAY the government is going about this. It is immoral to tell someone that they're not going to get paid, AFTER they have already worked and put in the hours, difficult and stressful hours at that. And unilaterally making these changes without having a dialogue is not democratic. Legal action must be enacted

We do what the MOH asks and set up FHOs and FHTs. We make the necessary investments. We become more responsive to patients' needs. We provide more services. We encourage patients to use our centres to reduce walk-in clinic use, produce positive access bonus results to show our commitment to this, incorporate EMR technology to enhance patient care, we act in good faith when we are told that primary care is needed as a cornerstone of Ontario's entry point into the system, and what we see the epitome of bad faith, or disdain and callous disregard for decent and respectful behaviour.
They cut funding for EMR support, cut our fees on a whim without adequate warning and directly impact our ability to run our offices.
If we are cut 10-20%, we have to close our doors commensurate to the percentage cut. We are not responsible for their mismanagement of the economy and of their wasteful spending. We are the only group of professionals to be treated so shabbily by this government. A 20% cut means closing one day a week.
We should not be the one to provide services for free with no end to cuts. Do nothing and you are guaranteed to see the cuts continue. Show that there are consequences and at least you keep you dignity and make them react and answer for their actions..

Until this or any successive scandal plagued government recognizes that there needs to be some form of patient accountability in our health care system, the reality is, WE ARE ALL DOOMED. Cut back on the insatiable public demand and we would have a system that could actually work. Promote health care and not sickness care.

As I doctor I know I am paid well. However, I trained for 12 years with 200K in debt. I have 4 employees working for me. With these cuts I will need to lay one or cut there pay.
Costs are going up because the demand on the system is great. I do not have any control over health care demand and my wait list gets longer reflective of that.
Doctors are not the problem. We can be part of a solution if we work together.

I am a family physician who has been in practice for 3 years. I have experienced only pay cuts and billing code eliminations since starting practice. This is very discouraging and makes me wonder how sustainable my practice will be if cuts continue to be imposed. I urge the OMA to bring this to the public's attention - I am shocked that this new round of cuts ( for which we have been given only 2 weeks notice!) has not made headlines.

Public awareness and support is key. This is not just a provincial issue, federal transfer payments have been decreased already. That election is happening now.
