Dear California Community College Chancellors' Office:
On January 20, 2023, the California Community College (CCC) Distance Education Coordinators' group learned that the Online Network of Educators, known throughout the CCC system as @ONE, would be reorganized at the end of the current fiscal year.
We, as wide range of faculty, staff, and administrators in the CCC system, are asking you to consider the voices of the community and the long term ramifications this decision to restructure will have on students and the services/instruction we provide.
@ONE has trained over 11,000 faculty since it came under the auspices of the California Virtual Campus. (This is not counting the years prior when it was run by a grant through the Mt. San Jacinto College campus.) The @ONE program has remained a constant source of high-quality, professionally-recognized training for online pedagogy, accessibility, and culturally responsive teaching.
With the increase of distance education offerings system-wide, (some campuses are still seeing over 50% of their enrollments in an online mode of instruction), @ONE should expand their services and programs to fill the need for training critical to student equity and success.
It is our hope that the @ONE program remains funded, and that moving forward, there is a plan for development of continual funding/resources to support this critical professional learning service.

The volume of support from faculty and administrators has caught the attention of the Chancellor's office. I have requested a formal meeting to present our arguments for maintaining the current structure of @ONE. Our next move is to finalize the briefing document that outlines the specific impacts of this reorganization.

@ONE has allowed me to create and teach equitable and engaging online courses. The range of course offerings and the caliber, imagination, innovation and commitment of the instructors has been invaluable to my and my fellow faculty's growth.
@ one is an important learning opportunity for faculty, many of whom don't know much about online teaching. Even "experts" need continuing education to stay current. Please do not end or take this program away from us! Community Colleges are not equipped to do this training. on their own and you will be hurting students if you take this away.
@ONE has been an amazing and valuable resource for my preparation and growth with serve students. The knowledge learned in the courses I completed with @ONE have been instrumental to my student in the classroom and in the counseling setting. Specially over the pandemic which brought so much uncertainty and anxiety to our students.
I would not be where I am today as an effective online instructor if not for the amazing @ONE training and certificate program. And, as a facilitator for @ONE, I can attest to the many CA Community College Instructors who have benefitted from the training, collaboration and support that @ONE fosters.
@ONE offers a variety of high-quality professional development opportunities. I've enjoyed workshops, facilitated short and long courses, self-paced courses, and multiple resources. @ONE is essential for the development of our local POCR process because faculty are trained through @ONE.
Our faculty needs this support! Please continue to fund!

As a very small community college with -0- instructional designers, we depend on the valuable training and adoptable training content that @One has provided through the years, especially the COVID days and getting 300 faculty up and running online in 24 hours. I honestly do not know what we will do if this valuable resource is not kept intact.
