If there is anyway possible to allow us to hold one last volunteer led summer of day camps and one last resident summer camps at Silverbrook it would mean so much to so many! (Even if tenting it was involved if they decide to move cabins from CWR. )

I have volunteered for 20 years at camp even when my daughter was able to be on her own i just took on a new role.. The only reason we made it through not having camp this year was knowing we would be there next year.

We spent 11 summers there as campers, a parent 5 day lead and then running the kitchen for 3 years during Prairie Hill week. We have so many fond memories. We ended with my daughters senior year switching to Potawatomi Hills. This saddens me immensely. Please don't sell these camps. Let future generation's of Girl Scouts make memories too!

I went to this camp as a child and now I have gone with MY dtr for the last 17 years, volunteering and enjoying it. As my dtr got older and was a PA and went off to guide units on her own, I had a tent that I would teach and be assigned to for the week.
Each summer I would save & use a full week of vacation to volunteer at Camp Winding River. Many many parent and adults at CWR take time off of work to volunteer at this camp and during camp to be with and work with all these scouts and to come and volunteer with each other every year! My dtr has now graduated HS and is in college and had planned on volunteering at a couple more camps this summer because she is able to an was looking forward to becoming an adult volunteer. She has been at CWR and gone through the progression like many girls have. Closing this camp to many future scouts in our area is very crucial to helping these scouts getting the involvement and guidance they need in their lives. I have not seen so many little girls run up to the counselors & PAs when they get off the busses in the morning hugging, laughing & so so happy to see those mentors each day.
Its not just a camp or a piece of land to be sold, its an amazing place where girls grow up, learn great skills, make new friends and are excited and look forward to coming back to each year!
Also, the camp ranger. Ranger Rick is the most wonderful person you could have to be a resident at that camp AND take care of O SO much there!!! His life has been that camp and he feels the same way the girls do!!! Excited to see the camp come to life in the summer with the leaders, volunteers, scouts and abundance of activities going on!! That is what he enjoys and works for while living and working at CWR. What is Ranger Rick going to do after dedicating his life to our camp.
There are alot more aspects to look at here than just closing a camp and selling the land.

Closing Girl Scout camps robs girls of an outdoor experience . Want to know why girls are becoming Boy Scouts instead of Girl Scouts? Girls enjoy the exciting outdoor activities their brothers and male friends are doing in boy scouting.

I have a daughter-in-law who has spent summers there and has never to be forgotten memories. She was there as a scout, PA and leader. She would like her 3 girls to enjoy and be able to keep the many memories of happy times there.

My wife Debbie who is not on Facebook has been volunteering over the last 10 years. My two daughters have also been involved over that same time as attendees and now PA’s. This camp needs to stay.

As a former girl scout, we need to keep our camps open for the good of the girls!!!!!
