This closing would be heartbreaking. We need at least one more summer camp if not more.

It is ridiculous how you are getting rid of the two best camps, the two that are uses the most. Why not get rid of the one that is a tractor museum?

That loud pop you just heard is the 'bubble burst' of decades of memories, growth, history and tradition of many in this council west of Milwaukee. To have this suddenly rolled out without input from the girls and volunteers served, and additionally offering no plan or ideas for the future is really, really hard.
Please put yourself in their shoes as you consider this petition. It is like someone pulled the rug out from under their feet and they found they have no floor under it either just a big hole with no light at the end of the tunnel.. Or is it possibly the intention to dissolve day camp programming?
I feel that a great opportunity was missed in how this decision appears to have been made and that is involving a task force made up of volunteers and staff, so all ideas and viewpoints, (perhaps especially by those affected the most), could be heard in networking on this. I understand an outside, out-of-state company was hired to study all this and I'm sure they did their best for you, but there is no boots-on-the-ground input in that and if council funded, rather than nationally funded in other words, perhaps those local funds could've also gone towards one more year for CWR - in a way that this would've then been rolled out in a timeline that everyone could adjust in a thoughtful way, with the time needed to do so. It also provides closure, especially after the unavoidable loss of this last summer's camps.
Personally, I come from a position as a 50++ yr life-member of GSUSA, a former national delegate, and a day camp director for Woodland Trails service unit starting at Camp Chinook (when it too was a day camp w/ CWR). As Chinook was being considered as a potential combo with a programming center concept, it was a task force of staff and volunteers, with input from older girls for ideas, that proceeded with the decision to use CWR as the only day camp, closing day camp at Chinook entirely. The task force also developed a list of other council's ca

After a virtual camp in 2020, the least you can do is offer one last in-person camp in 2021!

I was a camp volunteer one summer and truly enjoyed it. The kids were amazing and had SO much fun. The kids deserve a proper goodbye.
