On Saturday the 28th April, a group of hackers, lead by Joshua DeStefano (who goes by his online alias of “Rayquaza”) compromised an account that was permitted to administer the One Direction page. DeStafano went on to remove all of the administrators from the page, therefore meaning they were unable to post on the page and he posted on the page, posing as the administrators. Eventually coming clean, DeStefano admitted hacking the page along with his gang who he now shared ownership of the page with. A list of demands soon appeared on the page which included items surrounding the idea of gaining other Facebook pages to a higher number of ‘likes’. Although the One Direction page had nearly 300,000 ‘likes’ and it would be quite simple to comply with the demands, the dedicated fans refused to do as the hackers wanted. After this post, there were many images and textual posts made on the page made by DeStefano and his gang. These consisted of highly offensive material, such as Holocaust references, inappropriate use of the word ‘cancer’, ‘white power’ and derogatory comments made towards fans of One Direction and the Canadian artist, Justin Bieber. This petition is a demand to return the page to its original administrators. There is no need to keep control of the page now that you've had your fun. Just give it back.
