if an action is wrong in the park, pushing it out onto other areas will not make it right! Keep the park, give the homeless a place to go, and monitor to servalance at night for criminal activity.

We don't want a fence keeping us in, we're not in prison and don't deserve to be treated like we are. The other parks around Olympia don't have fences around them, this park doesn't need it either.

Whether the intent is to wall people in or wall people out, this is an ill conceived concept. Please continue to talk to the community and come to a resolution that works the best for the most people.

The Artesian Commons should be a COMMONS. putting up a fence even if it is open most of the day makes the place less welcoming to all Olympian. This location has been a gathering place for the homeless for as long as I've known about the well (12 years) and I think that it is a perfectly reasonable place for them to hang out and to be found by service agencies. If the city of Olympia would rather then not gather there then a day use center is the answer, imo, not a fence.

Whether homeless or not, people need a place to be. Disappearing the people who are experiencing homelessness will not help strengthen our community. Instead let us take care of one another and help encourage safe places.

I wonder If I could put a notion in his head: 'Why do they make good neighbors? Isn't it Where there are cows? But here there are no cows. Before I built a wall I'd ask to know What I was walling in or walling out, And to whom I was like to give offence. Something there is that doesn't love a wall, That wants it down.'
If the City Council really intends to make the Artesian Commons into a space used by all residents & visitors, they need to produce a plan based on community values, energy, and openness (rather than reacting in fear and closing off public spaces). Sadly, the ideas and ideals voiced by citizens at Council meetings appear to be largely ignored, in favor of the opinions of a few (ahem, *Steve Hall*) City Hall insiders.

This demonstrates the lack of information/education the decision makers actually have regardiing social problems and potential soluntions. Money could be better spent with employing an outreach coordination & opening up internships for those schooled in solution based agenda to reach our displaced youth.

It seems to me that this is a wrong headed approach. A more bottom up instead of top down solution should be looked at.
