While at Olave's there was always great pressure on the students and grades seemed the be all and end all. Since going to uni I quickly realised way too much of this pressure was for the good of the school and not the pupils as when I got to uni I felt incredibly under-prepared as many people I know did. I enjoyed my time there but have always been opposed to the school being able to kick students out after year 12, it is so disruptive to their education and completely unnecessary. The only gain is for the school having better stats to show off after results. I fully support this petition.

Dear management team at Olaves,
I hope it doesn't take the suicide of one of your students to realise the importance of their mental health and overall wellbeing. Aiming for high academic achievement is fine, but if you feel that only exam grades matter, you have not recognised the reality of life; money, status and a job in a higher social class does not render you immune to life's challenges, especially illness. If you want your students to succeed in life, show them that what matters in the end is their CHARACTER, NOT their qualifications.
How will they ever learn the importance of resilience and self love if their own school will only value them based on their grades?
The welfare of your students is vital to their success and happiness and as a school, you ought to be providing that support above all else. It is a disgraceful tragedy to hear the stories of neglect from your poor students; neglect you have enforced in pursuit of 'outstanding' Ofsted reports and higher ranking in the league tables.
Unless you change the school's ways, you will continue to fail your students. What an irony given your hunger for success and statistics!

When I went to Olave's, not once in the terms and conditions did it state that my position at the school during my time there would be threatened by any informal examination. Additionally should never expected my self and other classmates at any moment to be disadvantaged in terms of landing a place at the school due to our upbringing. It is apparent that actions taken by particular members of staff is entirely illegal and threatens the reputation of the school, ironically. I have been told that Mr Rees has threatened year 11s that they may receive detentions for signing this petition which is undemocratic and can be considered a violation of freedom of speech. I urge students not to be threatened by staff and to know their true place in the school community and that no one can physically remove you from the school grounds without legal reason. I also urge students and parents to not feel intimidated and scared to discuss the very relevant issues that prevail at this school, and to remember and record situations that have arisen where any member of the school community has been treated unjustly. The purpose of free education is to put the students in a position for progression, and for all students to be treated EQUALLY. The teachers and staff at Olaves need to remember why they got into teaching. I believe teaching is a hugely important and fundamental part of society, and what teachers do should be highly commendable. However it seems at Olaves, the teachers have forgotten why they became teachers and what the purpose of a schooling is. School is supposed to be an environment that both fosters learning and helps students grow and mature so that they are prepared for a future of their choosing. Olaves has made school an environment in which students are treated as a statistic on their league table placement and as a nuisance if they don't quite achieve a result that will contribute the Olaves' climbing the league table ranking. It seems as if Olaves has started to miss the point of education completely, and by signing this petition I hope that it helps the school get back on track to focusing on, what I believe to be, the most fundamental part of our society: good teaching.

The public face of this school is unfortunately not the reality. Pupils are viewed as legitimate collateral damage in pursuit of an unpublished agenda. Lying to parents is actively encouraged as acceptable behaviour for state funded employees. Add into that mix weak governance and inspections that are just not fit for purpose and the result is what you see described here .

The fact the school is able to do this is simply terrible. There needs to be a change, this could damage the future development of any individual, that is told "you cannot come back to this school" where they rightfully earned a place.

Signing because I agree that people deserve to continue their education without forced change to new schools or alike which can disrupt their development severely. I also believe that things like being able to work at subjects even if a few mock exams don't pay out as a student may have wanted should be vital in education, rather than a school giving students no chance. I think the school needs to take a much less ruthless approach which will benefit not only students but also the school, as students' happiness contributes greatly to how good a school is in many peoples' views

Unbelievable that a school rated so highly by OFSTED, and with a website showing so much care for their students can at the same time throw them out leaving them totally demoralised in a position where they don't have a school to go to in YR13 due to not attaining a grade B or above. Doesn't the school realise that its near impossible to find an appropriate school on the last day of term? Meaning gifted children (labelled by them) having to accept a standard school wherever they can, unless of course you can afford private! The whole point of a state funding school is for the interest of the child and NOT the school. How is it in the interest of the child in this situation? If it was only 1 child not meeting the grade then there is a problem with the child but to have approx 40 there is definitely something wrong at school level. This is yet another blow to the argument for more grammar schools and for sure I will be highlighting this to the relevant Grammar opposing parties! "Goto Grammar ONLY if you can afford Private in case you slip up on one exam..." Nice Daily Mail story here I think :) Now I understand why the school funding is under pressure as they are emptying the classes! I accept the reputation of the school is based on results, and I accept that's why I wanted my son to go this school but the school also has to take on their part of the responsibility. If they allow the child a position they should commit to that child the same way the child committed themselves to study in the first place (otherwise they wouldn't have got into the school). The schools mistake of accepting should not be at the expense of my child's future, who if only 1 of his result grade went up by one grade would get him into the university HE wanted to. I suppose we can only beg them to change their mind for all our children in this position and address the schools issue of acceptance / choice rather than take it out on them! What else can I say?

absolute betrayal by the school for the students. it is the schools fault not theirs. i can't wait for 12 years time when someone who got kicked out is really successful, and onac brags about the fact that they were an ex olavian, and then that successful person calls the *rude word too inappropriate* out for what he is, and then the name of the school will actually be brought down. shame on you onac.
