Update and Next Steps:

The DNC failed to reinstate the corporate fossil fuel PAC money ban at their summer meeting. We are calling on the DNC Executive Committee to finish what they started in June and reinstate the ban prior to the midterm elections.

Although everyone is welcome to sign and add comments, our primary goal with this petition is to gather comments and signatures from Washington State residents, local Democratic Party organization members and officials, Washington State Democratic Central Committee members and our Washington DNC delegation.

We will be compiling comments from Washington residents and delivering them to our DNC delegation and Chair Tom Perez.

A coalition of environmental organizations have gathered over 100k signatures on a similar petition. Please consider signing: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/tell-the-dnc-keep-fossil-fuel-money-out
____________________________________________________________________
In June the DNC Executive Committee passed a resolution banning fossil fuel PAC money. On August 10th this ban was reversed.

The act of accepting corporate PAC contributions from the fossil fuel industry is antithetical to the Democratic Party Platform, which states, “Democrats believe that climate change poses a real and urgent threat to our economy, our national security, and our children’s health and futures, and that Americans deserve the jobs and security that come from becoming the clean energy superpower of the 21st century.

The DNC meets in Chicago this weekend, August 23-25. Join us in calling on DNC leadership to stand for an oil-free democracy and keep our party clean!

Updates

August 25, 2018

The DNC reversed their decision on this ban and they hope we will just go away quietly. Send a direct email to your local delegation members demanding they reinstate the ban before the next election cycle begins.

August 25, 2018

The momentum behind this campaign proves the DNC cannot ignore our demand to reject fossil fuel money. Call your Washington State delegation members today and tell them we expect them to lead on this issue.

As a memeber of the RI Dem. State Committee I again call on DNC to not accept Fossil Fuel $... Just today it was discovered that our own Dem Gov. Gina Raimondo took in $250,000 in dirty fossil fuel money .. outrageous and unethical.. this must stop.

I am an elected Democratic Precinct Committee Officer, a union member for over 20 years, and a climate change educator for 19 years. I believe it is extremely important that the DNC and Democratic elected officials stop taking money and stop being influenced by the fossil fuel industry now.

Reinstate the fossil fuel PAC money ban. The DNC needs to walk the talk on climate change, which is in overwhelmingly large part due to our use of fossil fuels.

I am a PCO in Steilacoom, WA and very active in my LD. The Democratic Party must change. Stop pandering to corporations and rich donors and become more democratic. We are not Republicans! That's what they do!

Take the corporate money from dirty energy out of Democratic politics! If you don't. I will NEVER make another contribution to the DNC again.

I live near Seattle - we have been choking on smoke on weeks. Accepting fossil fuel money feels like a total disregard for the future of our planet. Democrats should be the champions of clean energy, not fossil fuels.

I worked as an aquatic ecologist for several government agencies and a tribal nation for 30 years before retiring in 2014. At a time when greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel extraction, transport and incineration are generating catastrophic climate change that threatens the survival of humans and literally countless non human species, it is insanity to accept campaign contributions from the fossil fuel industry. They are NOT your constituents. Ordinary citizens are, because unlike the executives and shareholders of these corporations, we actually care about life on earth and the ability of future generations to live on our planet. Please schedule a climate change debate among the current candidates running for the presidency. The final presidential candidates should be asked multiple questions about their stance on climate change after the party conventions next year. If the DNC downplays this issue, you will do a grave disservice to the Democratic Party.

I am a Democrat but I can see that our party is headed down the toilet with the refusal to understand what happened in the last election. If the DNC does not stand up to corporate corruption. more people will choose to stay home. If you love your money more than you love your children, more than you love your country, more than you love Creation, then just continue on your blind path.
