Update and Next Steps:

The DNC failed to reinstate the corporate fossil fuel PAC money ban at their summer meeting. We are calling on the DNC Executive Committee to finish what they started in June and reinstate the ban prior to the midterm elections.

Although everyone is welcome to sign and add comments, our primary goal with this petition is to gather comments and signatures from Washington State residents, local Democratic Party organization members and officials, Washington State Democratic Central Committee members and our Washington DNC delegation.

We will be compiling comments from Washington residents and delivering them to our DNC delegation and Chair Tom Perez.

A coalition of environmental organizations have gathered over 100k signatures on a similar petition. Please consider signing: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/tell-the-dnc-keep-fossil-fuel-money-out

In June the DNC Executive Committee passed a resolution banning fossil fuel PAC money. On August 10th this ban was reversed.

The act of accepting corporate PAC contributions from the fossil fuel industry is antithetical to the Democratic Party Platform, which states, “Democrats believe that climate change poses a real and urgent threat to our economy, our national security, and our children’s health and futures, and that Americans deserve the jobs and security that come from becoming the clean energy superpower of the 21st century.

The DNC meets in Chicago this weekend, August 23-25. Join us in calling on DNC leadership to stand for an oil-free democracy and keep our party clean!
