There are many of us civil engineering majors in the same situation at UTSA. We’re all trying to graduate and aren’t given the opportunity to do so because of this particular obstacle in our way. I know a lot of us want to be able to graduate in the Fall of 2019 but we aren’t able to because CE 4543 (Project Management), has to be taken a semester before Senior Design. Basically, you need to take project a semester before you graduate or you’re pushed back another semester. Who wants to be held back another semester and only end up taking 1 class in Spring 2020? None of us do. I briefly spoke to the Associate Dean of the Civil Engineering Department about this issue. He told me that if they can get at least 12 people who are able to take the course in the summer then Dr.Diaz could possibly find an instructor who is willing to teach it in the summer. I’m not sure if he was supposed to mention that or give false hope, but he did so It’s worth trying. If you are in this situation and want to be given a chance, sign this petition so we can get the word out to Dr.Diaz and the Dean. Please keep in mind that, if you really want to be given the chance to take project in the summer, you’ll need to pass Steel and any other pre req requirements for this class.
