Off-Campus ISU student apartments do not provide recycling pick-up. This has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of reusable material being dumped in the McLean County landfill, which will be FULL by this summer. We need to stop wasting our resources and throwing away money. It's about time we call for off-campus recycling.

Updates

December 7, 2016

The administration continues to ignore our demands while the local landfill runs out of space. Their negligence is forcing us to drown in our own trash just to save them a few dollars. I am currently meeting with waste management officials to force their hand on this issue.

December 7, 2016

The administration continues to ignore the pileup at our off-campus apartments while the landfill crawls toward total capacity. Our collective pressure is finally forcing them to look at the mess they created. Keep up the heat because the university cannot hide from this incompetence much longer.

The lack of off-campus recycling is a disgraceful blight on this town. We need look no further to see its effects than the constantly overflowing dumpsters that spill into parking lots and the once-salvagable materials made into trash that blows on and off campus. We need to set a standard for waste disposal and recycling in our town.

Collecting my recyclables, transporting them to a recycling center, unpacking them, and sorting them is such a burden that I can understand why many students don't recycle. If single-stream recycling pick up was available to students then recycling would become convenient for many people. Furthermore, adding recycling can reduce waste management costs because students could recycles their beer bottles and pizza boxes, meaning there would be less garbage to take care of.

I'm just shocked that this is even a issue, but not surprised because of the shady/greedy real estate companies that pretty much control it all just want to be cheap.

It causes a burden to have to drive to places if we want to recycle. The ability to recycle is not made easier even when living in an apartment relatively close to campus.
