Signing this petition will help support our efforts to bring a deadly process, called ocean acidification, to congressional attention, so they can research the issue.

So what is this process called Ocean Acidification and why is it so bad?

When there is too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the carbon dioxide reacts with the saltwater of the ocean to create hydrogen ions. This causes the ocean's pH level to decrease over time, causing the ocean to be more acidic. This lower pH is deadly. It causes the corrosion of seashells and the death of other types of aquatic life.

Ocean Acidification also causes the seafood industry to lose a great amount of money each year, which hurts the economy. Also, if no research is put into ocean acidification, certain types of marine life may become extinct and all coral reefs could disappear, devastating the ecosystem.

Please help us alert congress that ocean acidification is a growing issue, and it is leading to the destrucion to many aquatic ecosystems.
