What is Ocean Acidification?
When there is a surplus of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the CO2 reacts with seawater creating hydrogen ions.This excess hydrogen causes the pH of the ocean to decrease over time. With the lower pH, the corrosion of seashells and marine life occurs.
What does this mean for the world?
- The seafood industry would be at a loss of revenue.
- Certain marine life would become extinct.
- Coral reefs could become non-existent.

I spent the entire morning reading reports from coastal researchers and the reality of retreating coral health is much worse than I initially feared. My inbox is full of messages from people who rely on the ocean for their livelihoods and they are terrified about what comes next. We are preparing a formal brief to deliver to local offices because we cannot afford to wait for them to notice this on their own.

Seeing this momentum grow brings me hope for the reefs I have loved since I was a child. The fact that so many of you see the urgency of this crisis validates everything I have fought for in the water.

stop killing the ocean!!! hope this actually gets to someone in charge.
My kids deserve to see coral reefs when they grow up. congress needs to do something for once.
