I support OXY football 100% and hope that our President and current Athletic Director will join us in creating a competitive team that can win the SCIAC we won it in 1971 and it was the providence og God that helped us win and alot of talented players aka Fred Tippett (USC committ), Pete Labosky (Pacific Palisades) , Dave Atkinson, Marlon Peterson (best defensive tackle I played against on my own tem, Randy Peterson (tight end) , Vince Jewel (middle line backer) it was an amazing thing to be on the front page of the LA Times 1971 because OXY was playing Pomona College for the SCIAC title and USC and UCLA were having pedestrian years in football; we were the Sports story!!! We need to evangelize our athletic department with the history of Oxy Football!!!! Bring back Ken Visor!!!!! to coash our team AMEN

Not one penny until a change in the athletic director happens. She has destroyed the honor and tradition of athletics at Occidental Eric Linneman '84 - T&F

The current players have been defrauded by President Veitch and Jamie Hoffman. Now, there is an effort to re-write and justify Hoffman's actions. I commend those who spearheaded this effort.

Student athletes learn character, teamwork and grit that shapes their lives, and apply these to their academic learning also. Who I am today is in part, a half a denture later, shaped by Oxy football and rugby(both hall of fame teams). Don't take that opportunity away from future generations.

It is stunning that at a time when small colleges all over the country are either reviving or adding football programs (presumably to attract the 100 males at $50k per), Oxy has allowed a rogue AD to decimate their storied football program.

As one of a few Oxy Alums who coach college football, I am very disturbed by the recent events. I'm '85 graduate and coached at Oxy for 4 years. When I came back and coached at Oxy, I had been at 3 different institutions of higher learning. The one thing I believe is that hard work will overcome all deficiencies. I had the opportunity to work and play for Dale Widolff. The one thing I know for sure he was part of the Oxy community. Recruiting for Oxy takes long hours on the phone to find the next great Oxy athlete. The people who where hired after Dale's firing did not have a connection to Oxy. They did not work like the alums who where on the coaching staff under Dale. Mike Schmidt, Bill Dobson and myself put in long countless hours to make sure our alma mater continued with the success we built while playing. The only way Oxy gets back to where it was under Dale Widolff is to hire an alum who knows the institution and understands what it takes to succeed.

The time is now to effectuate a positive change and preserve the 120-year old tradition of intercollegiate football at Occidental College. This program is a portal of leadership which needs to be embraced and nurtured by the Administration instead of being diminished and shamed. Let the Administration know our position in clear, unified and unadulterated voices. Io Triumphe

The lack of support from the current administration, as well as the ineptitude and bias of the athletic director is both shameful and outrageous. Occidental is not fulfilling its mission statement nor its promises to the student athletes, especially the football players.

It is shameful the AD has been allowed to run this program and the athletic department into the ground, not to mention maligning the character of the individuals on the football team. Enough!
