Relying on Old Colorado City neighborhoods for parking during multi-day events is unsustainable. The Christkindlmarket is already eyeing expansion for next year. An 11-member Old Colorado City Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has just been established to advocate for OCC businesses, with a primary goal of increasing events in town. We can support a vibrant westside without continuing to turn our neighborhood into a parking lot. It is time for an event parking strategy that respects residents. I am proposing that:

1. Permit approval for any multi-day event must be based upon the submission and review of a comprehensive parking plan.

2. During multi-day events, each resident must be allowed to reserve a space for a single vehicle in front of their home. This is essential for those that rely on street parking.

Together, we can come up with a compromise that allows our westside businesses to prosper and still respect those of us who live here.
