Objection to TWK proposed levy increase

I strongly oppose this additional levy on top of our already substantial rates. You demonstrate a complete lack of accountability re. the money we currently pay in rates (more than many do in CT) and yet you ask for more. The evidence of this is we the ratepayers observe our water infrastructure, sewage and roads disintegrating in our village and lets not mention the ongoing lack of housing in our village that remains on your 'to do' list. You treat our village as your cash cow for the broader TWK area.

Show us first where our rates go.

Concern with management and use of funds.

I cannot believe TWK is looking to increase the levy, which is completely unacceptable. Many of the roads are in a state & damage vehicles. Every time we have heavy rains, our road gets washed away. This is because our village has no storm water infrastructure. The water quality out of the taps is unacceptable. We pay high Cape Town rates. Please stop ripping us off & treating Greyton like a cash cow. Time to invest more in Greyton, which gives so much to the rest of TWK municipal area. Dankie, Russ in Grey Street

Until we get a details of how the money will be accounted for per town and per project it makes no sense to pay more money into a system that is already seemingly unable to manage the existing funds it receives in a way that benefits those who contribute. Also this scheme would require everyone to pay equally, unless this can be guaranteed we are going to be in exactly the same situation where a few pay for the majority who do not.

Considering the shocking infrastructure of Greyton & surrounds, the exceptionally low level of service delivery and, seemingly our taxes that are being used primarily, to create an excessive ‘elitist’ employment base where high salaries, luxury vehicles & lifestyles are at the order of the day. Most concerning is that most of the muni employees are not qualified or experienced for the position they hold. In addition, the current financial position of TWK vs same during the previous management tenure is frightening and, absolute confirmation of the incompetence & recklessness of present management.

All too much!

Rates are way higher than in Cape Town, yet they offer Greyton extremely little. We are tired of funding others that don't pay for anything. Everyone should pay something, even the poor.

I strongly object to this increase and lack of actual rates spent in Greyton upkeep and maintenance of roads, water infrastructure, initiatives in creating local employment and many others in Greyton and immediate area.

I support the objection of the additional charge to the residents monthly rates and utility bill of R20.

Greyton Residents pay by far the highest Rates and Taxes in TWK, and amongst the highest in SA. The material benefit is essentially non existent with all levels of infrastructure in increasing states of disrepair and degradation - road maintenance and repair, run off management, erratic refuse removal schedules, erratic sewerage removal services due to insufficient tanker capacity, power failures outside of Load Shedding and little or no TWK Law Enforcement presence which would assist efforts in reducing crime, which is an embarrassing reality in Greyton and surrounds. In addition, erratic water supplies affected by load shedding and exacerbated by power outages resulting from failures in TWK Infrastructure. Imposition of what appears to be an unwarranted and poorly justified levy to shore up budget deficits resulting from apparent mismanagement of financial resources is not acceptable, and liable to result in negative backlash. Lastly - TWK Management.....why was this notice not circulated, as so many have commented, via the normal channels used to send Rates Accounts, which would have ensured every Rate Payer received it? and why with such a short Public Participation response time.....?

Couldn’t each TWK district ratepayers association establish funds to meet felt priority development needs of respective communities.

Establishment of fund controlled by legitimate ratepayer associations would be beneficial to meet urgent infrastructural improvements and untoward critical repairs. This would provide each ‘district’ with funds to meet development/improvement needs according to determined priority by said area association.

Totally oppose the levy. We pay ridiculously high rates as it is. TWK needs to account for where the money is being spent and be transparent in its budget and associated spend. To ask residents for yet more money to contribute to infrastructure is unacceptable considering out current rate contributions.

Hell NO!! TWK is notorious for misuse of funds and wasteful expenditure... how on earth did Land Invasions in Greyton alone cost TWK R5 million, they can barely maintain roads with our high rates and taxes, start by restructuring their salaries!

Unacceptable. Rates are already exorbitant in Greyton with little to show for it. I strongly oppose this levy.
