Once again SA CAA is pushing for red tape where it is not required. What is the intended purpose of registering all airfields? The existing requirement for registered airfields are way too onerous for small recreational airfields. Why don't CAA just ban general aviation instead? It will have a similar result. This has not been thought through properly and I suspect there is someone who wants to make money out of this legislation and pushing for such agenda. There is no other valid reason. CAA will turn honest law abiding citizens into criminals as I will NOT abide by such daft legislation.

If the CAA has nothing else to do, focus on issues that make sense or improve safety or even train tower personnel to do a proper job then rather mess with unnecessary issues, then on could respect them.

This is very short sighted. The CAA should work to build South African aviation up, not tear it apart with thoughtless, expensive regulations. There must be another solution.

It's a pity that this issue has once again reared its ugly head. This regulation has not been thought through properly. The negative imapact on our general aviation industry will be of a level never seen in RSA before. Extremely frustrated in this rediculous proposal.

I own the Munster private airfield which is voluntary registered . (VR001) It is maintained to a high standard with fire extinguishers & sprinkler system in the hangar as requested by our local fire department. In the past two years two forced landings have occurred on my field saving both the lives of the pilots & their aircraft. Details are available on request. I don't see the need for or the additional costs which private registration would incurr. Yours sincerely. Dave Kinsey.

One only need look at Germany to see what effect overzealous regulation can have on GA. In places like South Africa, Alaska, New Guinea, etc., communities depend on these pilots and light aircraft as a lifeline and major source of income, transporting wildlife tourists, veterinarians, medical supplies, etc. Why would one want to snuff these industries out and reduce GDP? A pilot's judgment has worked for more than a century to make aviation one of the safest modes of transportation available. Especially in areas with vast distances and little infrastructure between communities, landing and taking off somewhere else than a licensed, regulated, commercial airport is necessary, and is done safely every day. Common-sense regulation is one thing, over-regulation such as this is something entirely different, and entirely counter-productive to a thriving economy. Let's allow these pilots to continue practicing their own judgment of the situation (not some bureaucrat's, sitting at a desk somewhere), to safely provide a valuable and needed service to the people.

This looks like a case of large operators and government colluding to shut down the little guy, a problem we have to fight constantly in the US. Hopefully sanity will prevail and these little airports be able to remain open.
