EDGEWOOD DDOT BIKE LANE & PARKING RECONFIGURATION

I demand that rather than protecting life and limb for cyclists, this space be left open for me to put my vehicle for free. The government has no right to maintain or modify a public street.

Traffic is already bad enough, parking and left turn lanes have already been eliminated on Monroe st.. there is no need for a bike lane on 8th st.

There is no available parking on this street as it is. This was especially difficult for me when I was temporarily disabled an unable to walk without difficulty. Making this street one-way would be disastrous.

I oppose this action.

I am a biker and see no need for transitioning 8th St NE to a one way street to accomodate a bike lane. I understand that it is a key connection to the met branch trail but I have never felt that auto traffic on this street was such that it endangered me as a bicyclist and really dont see a need for anything more than the existing road markings identifying this as a bike route. As the petition notes, this change would negatively impact businesses along this route by making vehicle access more challenging.

Residents who live in the area already have trouble finding parking. Lets not hurt more small businesses in DC. Only 3% of DC residents bike. Why does the city cater so much to them?

Comrades, "Strongly oppose" is much too weak a stance. I, for one, oppose the Edgewood DDOT Bike Lane & Parking Reconfiguration with the fire of a thousand suns! "Undo [sic] influence" indeed! As everyone knows, neighborhoods that install PBTs invariably become lawless, economically depressed hellscapes of mass death with zero transit options and ear-splitting road noise from all of the bicycles. No thank you! You might not realize it from the hundreds of feet of empty curb space visible every night on 8th Street, but we need every available inch of public right-of-way to store our two-ton, privately-owned metal wagons, as God and George Washington intended. And keep your filthy hands off our traffic patterns! It was my mother's dying wish that cars forever travel two ways on 8th street NE unimpeded. (Except for the Sunbelt Rentals trucks permanently larding up half the street, which I can only assume are on the National Register of Historic Places.) In summary, cyclists and the children they transport on the MBT are dumb and should just keep dodging cars and construction equipment until the heat death of the universe. Or ride on the train tracks instead. That's a thing, right?

More parking not less. Unless bikes cannot drive on side streets, bike lanes are not necessary. Cities across the country have survived without bike lanes, I think DC can to. It’s unfair to businesses and residents to have their street taken over by ideologies versus research on parking costs and the burden of expense to residents. Especially in the cold weather months where biking drops off and bike lane usage decreases by 90%.

This will be really disruptive to all businesses in this street

DDOT gave far too much weight to special interest groups like the bicycle association and only gave perfunctory acknowledgement to the interest of the neighborhood residents. They had a community meeting just to check off a box to indicate they had community engagement, but they were simply misleading the public. We already don't have space to park as residents as it is know also we have a school right at 8th &Hamlin with no crossing guard very dangerous and we have snow storms we're the snow going . ###Bad decision

Absolutely against this action.

Thank you for doing this. It is unjust to make decisions that only benefit a few and adversely effect so many others.

I hope the agencies and commissions that make decisions do a better job taking the time to do studies and assessments to make divisions that are fair.

This will cause major challenges for the schools and businesses in the community. I oppose this project, but would ask that another solution be proposed that would allow for pedestrians, bike riders, and cars to all safely move through the neighborhood.

Limiting parking and increasing traffic flow in a residential area will be detrimental to the community.

Absolutely opposed to the proposed traffic and parking changes that will negatively impact the lifestyles of the neighborhood’s citizens as well as regular visitors to the area. It will make an already tricky situation more difficult than it has to be. Maybe some revisions to the patterns are needed, but most certainly not this design. Not at all. This is not what we want.

This will greatly impact BAL which has historically been here and impacted the surrounding community
