Sorry all, this bike lane is happening. Learn to live with it.
The community has had many, many opportunities to weigh in on this process. Plenty of residents have been supportive of the PBL! As to those that haven't: their concerns have been heard, accommodated where possible, and overruled where unreasonable. The result is a plan that preserves street parking and car traffic, protects students and other pedestrians, and provides for safe travel by cyclists (your neighbors and fellow DC residents) along one of the busiest biking routes in the District.
Annie's and the other businesses along 8th Street will be just fine. I defy you to name a single DC business that has been taken down by a bike lane. It doesn't happen. We can't allow a business to hold sensible infrastructure hostage because their car-using customers might have to drive an extra block or two.
It's important for infrastructure projects to respect the needs of the community. But the 'community' isn't limited to a scattering of car owners in a one-block radius. Fortunately DC has taken a larger view here and is making the right call here.

One way streets divide neighbourhoods, cause increased energy consumption, lead to road rage, and separate structures on those streets from their adjacent urban fabric. I absolutely am AGAINST turning 8th street one-way.

I love a good bike lane in areas where its truly advantageous. But doing it in already congested residential/slightly commercial area seems unnecessary, especially since the area is smaller already.

There is no need for a protected bike lane there. This is already a relatively low traffic area. A painted bike designation would be more helpful.

There are too many schools further down 8th street that need to be able to turn right to go around to edgewood. It is already a nightmare to get to the schools, a one-way will make an already bad situation much much worse! Please don't make 8th street a one way. This would be almost as bad as the stop sign one block in from Rhode Island on Lincoln Park Rd, that is the most ridiculous thing I've seen in a while!

This proposed change will adversely impact the businesses on the street, push traffic to even smaller streets (Ex. Lawrence) and have impacts that haven't been considered. I am a bike rider and see bikers on this road that don't take responsibility for their own safety. They do not where reflective gear or have lights on their bikes to alert cars to being there. Please reconsider this.

Bike lanes on 8th Street, NE, should NOT be promoted at the expense of auto traffic which is increasingly becoming constricted. Meanwhile, folks on bikes continue to ride on sidewalks, despite having dedicated bike lanes a foot away. This should be illegal. Will bike riders be mandated to ride one way? Of course not. This has gotten completely out of hand. Measures like this do not promote coexistence and diversity, but divisiveness, and monopoly.

We should build the bike lanes. Make 7th St southbound one-way and it will be a little loop.
