Oakley Village Petition in Objection to Hampshire County Council Highways' Proposed Narrowing of Hill Road & Rectory Road, Oakley, Hants

85 more houses will inevitably lead to about 200 more cars, so reducing the width of Hill Road to cope with this increase borders on lunacy, The bad effects on the rest of traffic flows in this village with its poor inherited infrastructure are clear.

I'm against the proposed changes, as I consider them to increase the likelihood of an accident

Hill Road will become even more difficult to pass along for both pedestrians and drivers

Dangerous for pedestrians, and could affect access for Emergency Vehicles.

I object to the proposed road alterations. They do not seem to be well thought out and look like they will increase the potential for accidents and personal injury.

Narrowing the roads causes delays and therefore more pollution from waiting vehicles - especially deisels.

The narrowing scheme will not only increase congestion at peak times but fails to address the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

These roads get are already disrupted by traffic and pinch points added would only make them not only more troublesome for traffic but downright dangerous for traffic and pedestrians.

I agree that this is an accident waiting to happen. This beautiful village is sadly being chipped away at. Hill Road is already a nightmare and I have myself been on the receiving end of frustrated drivers having to give way due to parked cars. Narrowing this road is going to cause chaos.

Hill Road is difficult enough to negotiate at times due to the number of parked cars. If it was narrowed it would cause considerable delay and frustration. What would happen when the bus stops or a courier makes a delivery? Traffic would grind to a halt. In no time drivers would become fed up and use an alternative route like Kennet Way, a road frequently used by pedestrians but with no footpath for much of its length, and a children's play area. An accident waiting to happen surely.

The ill considered traffic control scheme and system is beyond comprehension is terms of impact on this rural, 18 th Century village, both in aesthetic considerations and the consequences for 21st Century traffic and pedestrians, children on bicycles. It is a travesty of insensitivity, and crass violation of the living environment of all who live here, and use these extremely narrow roads with care, since to drive through Hill Road with all the parked cars already requires constant patience and consideration for oncoming drivers. We ARE a Village of considerate people. This inconsiderate scheme is likely to alter that due to frustration in negotiating such an appalling traffic narrowing plan. I am disgusted that this notion has even reached the stage where is has to be considered. Highways should have discarded this immediately as being non viable and unsafe. Shame on you Hampshire County Council Highways Planning!

What is the sense in narrowing the roads when they are increasing traffic by building new houses where there will no doubt be multiple cars.

This is a pointless suggestion aimed at somehow undermining the legitimate concerns associated with the proposed development off Upper Farm Road

In the mid 70s some front ,gardens were compulsorily purchased to widen Hill Road in order to accommodate the Upper Farm developments. So now to add 50% more houses there the width of Hill Road is to be halfed. Also the new footpath mods that result in Rectory Road narrowing are apparently a benefit to the community and £50000 was reduced from the developer's proposed S106 contributions ( few of which benefit Oakley anyway!)

This is not practical for our village. Have they seen the large vehicles we have around here. Tractor etc?

Unbelievably naive! Rectory and Hill Roads are not coping with the current level of traffic let alone turning it into a giant obstacle course!

This will change the village and cause havoc for residents.
