Oakley Village Petition in Objection to Hampshire County Council Highways' Proposed Narrowing of Hill Road & Rectory Road, Oakley, Hants

People have brought their homes in Oakley to be situated away from Basingstokes congestion and traffic problems to find you will be moving it nearer to them.This tiny road can not cope with this infrastructure and would cause enormous problems for the people living in this vicinity. I propose you seek an alternative route which will have less negative impact on locals lives.

This is a real danger to pedestrians, especially the number of children who cross here twice daily on their way to school.

Why do they want to ruin this village? It will open the door for more houses to be built if this is allowed to happen, its all being done in readiness for more housing and the character/village feel will be lost forever

Oakley already has a traffic problem and the proposal to narrow Rectory and Hill Roads is an accident waiting to happen. Sat Nav sends lorries along Rectory Road and if it is narrowed it will cause a complete bottle neck and a danger to pedestrian and local traffic.

Wholly unacceptable impact on Oakley community by this private development seeking to maximise profit at community expense and inconvenience

This road proposal is totally unacceptable resulting from the unjustified development off Beech Tree Close with its impact on the rest of Oakley.

Oakley is already struggling with traffic and the proposal to narrow both Rectory Road and Hill Road is an accident waiting to happen. Already Sat Nav means that we have an unacceptable amount of traffic using Rectory Road which hardly lets two cars pass each other, if the road becomes narrower it will be a bottle neck and even more of a hazard to pedestrians and village traffic alike.

This will provide a dangerous traffic hazard on a t junction of Barn Lane.. The proposed narrowing of Rectory Road to accommodate a footpath will make two way traffic even more hazardous as this road is used more by large lorries accessing the village via the Dummer road, Station road and the narrow lane from Oakley Hall..

The ,futility,perversity and associated danger and detriment to the well being of all Oakley residents and traffic and transport flows jn the village of these proposals. have been fully documented in the submission by the LWBTC Action Group to the forthcoming Planning Inquiry Appeal and are contrary to the Village Plan proposals for development in the village which are waiting ratification.

These areas are already narrow and the proposal will increase frustration and congestion at various times of day and is unwelcome. I object to the proposal.

Objection!!!

You don't live in our village, you don't understand it, so why do you wish to destroy it? There is no traffic hazard at the Barn Lane/Hill Road junction but the road narrowing scheme could cause one. Why are you planning this scheme BEFORE any approval has been granted for the Beech Tree development? Or are we looking at a 'done deal' ? Can we now have some genuine consultation before proceeding any further with more involvement from the village?

Even during quiet times, Hill Road is already a narrow, busy road. At peak times, with school buses, buses, and once a week, dust trucks, it is already dangerous with poor visibility, particularly on the exit on to it from Barn Lane. It is particularly dangerous for both cyclists and pedestrians and narrowing the roads will only increase the problem.

Don't spoil a beautiful country lane!

Proposed changes to Hill Road and Rectory Road will have a negative effect on the safety of all users. Hill Road is already narrow and as a main road within the village used by buses as well as general vehicles, making it even more difficult to navigate will inevitably reduce safety particularly for our many cyclists. Rectory Road is a busy country road and in keeping with its historic basis and part of the conservation area should remain without lighting and pavements, whilst it's use by pedestrians and horseriders should be encouraged. Adding 'bits' of pavements and pinchpoints will reduce safety. Adding lighting to secluded footpaths is both out-of keeping and will encourage crime and antisocial behaviour.

These proposed road changes illustrate the complete unsuitability of Gleeson's planned development for the Beech Tree Close site. In particular, the Cedar Lodge access route onto Barn Lane would be perilous for pedestrians, and particularly for buggies and disabled vehicles, even after road narrowing.
