We, the undersigned, request that the City Council and Mayor immediately adopt a policy requiring the employment of 50% Oakland residents in all job categories on all projects which receive city funding, including permanent and temporary professional, construction, and other jobs. We request that this be made an urgency resolution and be adopted by mid-October 2010. Oakland’s level of unemployment is unacceptable, unnecessary, and urgent. Having Oaklanders hold a majority of city-funded jobs helps the individuals, the neighborhoods, and Oakland revenues. Companies which use our tax dollars should hire our residents.

The City Council thinks they can ignore the massive wave of support this petition has generated but they are wrong. We have built undeniable momentum that proves Oaklanders are tired of seeing our own tax dollars used to hire outsiders instead of our neighbors.

ABOUT TIME. My tax dollars better go to pay my own neighbors not people driving in from 2 hours away.
oakland needs this bad. so many construction jobs going to outsiders it makes no sense.
