This is a professional organization made up of various practitioners. The requirements are just as/or more stringent than some other professions holding license I think licensure would only help us stand out more.

As a nursing mom, I sought out a private IBCLC to assist with some issues my son and I were having with nursing. I found the hospital provided lactation consultants were not helpful and not as knowledgeable as the IBCLC I sought out. It would be great to have them state licensed so I could get my medical insurance to pay for visits in network.

Breastfeeding is terrifically important for improving public health. State licensure for IBCLCs is imperative both for ensuring families get professional breastfeeding care and ensuring they can afford that care.

Breastfeeders wont get the support they deserve until the IBCLC is a licensed credential. Too sad but too true. We need this in all states

The skills and knowledge base of IBCLCs is unique to this group of specialty health care providers. It is different from what nurses and physicians and other specialists bring.
