This is a lot of risk with the rate at which things are happening.

I've had family members who had covid before. So sitting in a room with dozens of people without knowing how dangerous this variant is and possibly needing a new vaccine makes me feel uncomfortable.

I personally do not feel comfortable being in a room with over 80 students with no room for social distancing, it’s a large safety issue to me.

I understand that in person exams are to prevent cheating. However, with this new virus I don’t feel comfortable doing so without PPE. As nurses the work we do should also be more likely to benefit others than put people at risk. The issue with PPE is that it is distracting since we aren’t accustomed to taking exams with it on. As a person who wears glasses to see anything - a mask will definitely fog up with my glasses. Taking the mask on and off to defog my glasses will not only take time away from me doing the exam, but also alter my concentration. And even possibly put me at risk of COVID for touching my face. Even if we take COVID test before the exam, the virus can lie undetected until a certain number of days after exposure. The vaccine does not guarantee protection from the virus as I have 2 fully vaccinated coworkers test positive earlier this year. I, like many others have family from out of town staying with me for the holidays, and my mom is 75 and lives with me. I am not only scared for myself, but for my children. If cheating is such a concern we can turn on our cameras, our audio, or even use respondus. Although, I can’t imagine how one cheats on exams when we have about a minute per question, and a lot of that time is spent just understanding what the question is asking in the first place. Thank you for your consideration to this matter. Thank you for taking into account that we will be on a STATE OF EMERGENCY with the new strain of virus. (And we don’t know much about it due to its recent appearance.) Thank you for taking into consideration this petition and reading this response.

There is no reason to go in person the last two weeks, right before the holidays and seeing our families. This is putting others in unnecessary. risk.

I am scared of the new covid virus. My family has been afflicted so far with the death of my uncle. I am definitely uncomfortable with this.

As future nursing professionals, we must come together to create change and decide on actions that will help better the safety and health of our community, this is one of the main goals of nursing. In the face of the new more transmissible Omicron variant already being detected in the US, unclear efficacy of the vaccine against the new variant, and rising numbers of covid cases in hospitals among staffing shortages we NYCCT in solidarity need to do our part in preventing gatherings of large groups of individuals indoors during this holiday season. Adding on the fact that we are nursing students attending in-person clinical sites consistently exposed to hospital patients who may also have Covid. Even more concerning is that we are already aware of a few students in our nursing program and clinical sites testing positive for Covid a week after even showing symptoms and still showing up to group classes unaware they are infected. Our nursing classes were hybrid in the past and have shown that the final exams can be completed online. It only takes one person to create an outbreak, it is not worth exposing everyone and risking the safety of our community by spreading Covid with little to no real benefit by testing exams in person even with social distancing.

As the new variant omicron is spreading like a wildfire, it’s completely reckless by putting so much in campus to take finals and putting students and their loved ones lives at risk.

There is a new variant and NY state of emergency, our cohorts contracting COVID, and a new US case of the variant in California. I don’t feel comfortable with the final being in person in a small room with 60+ students. I don’t feel safe, thank you.
