Journalism should be about the truth, not sensationalism to gain readers. Print a retraction.

Bats are vital for the ecosystem service of pollination. As humans we have the absolute responsibility to protect ecosystem service because it not only benefits ourselves but also the everything the around us. Without bats helping with pollination and balancing the insect population we are doomed.

Bats are a vital part of our ecosystem and deserve proper recognition instead of misinformation born of ignorance and fear.

In 27 years of CDC reporting, there were over 70 Cases of human rabies in US by source animal, 1991-2018, and 51 were from Bats; HOWEVER, "globally, infected dogs cause 98% of the 59,000 human deaths each year". "Post-exposure treatment is available in almost every emergency department across the country" and it is very effective. Stop making bats the scapegoat for problems caused by unvaccinated dogs. https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/12/health/rabies-bats-cdc-study/index.html

Bats are some of our best pollinators and pest control. They deserve better than cheap harmful clickbait articles in a globally respected publication!

Bats are truly amazing, adorable, and vital animals in our ecosystem. We should praise them and help them not falsely judge and accuse them.

A publication like the NY Times has a responsibility to factually check articles before publication - so sad to have maligned these beautiful animals.

The new CDC report in no way encourages the killing of bats. "Bats play a critical role in the environment so we do not recommend killing them. Instead, people should make sure to vaccinate their domestic pets who may encounter rabid bats or raccoons.”
