I live on the west coast of Canada. As the head admin of ROAR, I have personally called rescues, prospective adopters/fosters and the shelter in NY-ACC with the intention to liaison the saving of an animals life within this pound system. I've had a few victories but all too often tears of defeat run down my face when I discover another one has been silenced forever.
A shelter is supposed to protect, give aid and assist animals at risk but this is not what the NY-ACC pound system is presently offering. The unprecedented systematic extermination of cats and dogs within the NY-ACC (NY-ARAA) has to stop.
It is obvious that New York has an issue with pet over population. The government needs to address this problem by allotting tax dollars to free and low cost spay neuter services to all citizens within its jurisdiction, while levying substantial fines against those that allow their pets to breed.
I have personally seen this system effectively reduce the number of unwanted animals dramatically without the use of killing. The spay neuter system equates to a no kill environment within the shelter system and has long term cost effective benefits. In addition, it demonstrates that the community is willing to learn and grow, while acting on a compassionate level to address the needs of ALL its citizens ... both with and without a voice.
Sincerely
Kat Mattice

Animals that are spayed or neutered live a longer, happier life. Not to mention, it helps with pet over-population <3 !

This country should be setting an example as world leader in humane treatment of all living beings. Systems should be set up nationally to TEACH responsible conduct and care of all animals to all children. This continued needlessness killing and inhumane treatment of pets and wildlife in the USA is appalling to ME and many others..

This needs to happen across the country and eventually the world. I'm heart sick at how many animals are killed daily because humans failed them. It's not their fault they were born, abused, neglected, abandoned. Stop making them pay with their lives. We support murders in jail for decades yet we can't support an animal until it's adopted?

Dogs and cats deserve a decent, cruelty free life. They should not be killed because humans abandon them or abuse them. They deserve decent shelters with trained compassionate staff and access to vets. When rehoming proper home checks so they don't end up in the wrong hands. Staff should always be animal lovers it's not just a job

NYC needs a total revamp of the shelter system. With ALL the empty buildings and property availble that are bringing literally no income in for the city, why don't you utilize these and turn them into specific cat and dog shelters, and RENT OUT USEABLE SPACE to VETS, PET VENDORS, and other animal related businesses so that although the non profit will pay no taxes, the VENDORS WILL PAY SALES TAX which will give the city income. I don't see how you can wait to do this when thousands of animals are killed over lack of space and the terrible way this shelter system is run.

Having rescued for many years my heart has seen enough misery for a lifetime on the 'outside'. To see it in our shelters is to much to bear and casts we humans as barbarians.
STOP THE SLAUGHTER
STOP THE SLAUGHTER!!!!!!!
Enough killing of innocents
