Students have participated in instructional governance at NUSL for decades, and this plays a vital role in sustaining our unique culture.  We believe that most administrators, faculty, and students remain committed to student participation, but we fear that it is now in jeopardy because the community has been slow to complete the charter-revision process begun in 2008.  To bring the process to a speedy conclusion and to preserve this important tradition, we urge the Governing Council on October 26, 2011, to approve SBA's proposed "Framework Agreement."  We welcome amendments aimed to widen the appeal of the proposal to all segments of the community.

I have been hearing from so many of you about how vital it is that we protect our culture here and honestly it is just overwhelming to see how much we all value this shared history. Some people seem nervous about the slow pace of these revisions but I keep thinking that if we stay focused on this new framework then we can actually get somewhere that works for everyone even if the process feels like it is dragging on forever.
