I am a concerned Utah citizen against the proposed tax nexus legislation being considered during this legislative sessions. For the reasoning listed on this website, I am signing this petition to demand that these nexus bills not be voted into law.

I also pledge to use my influence as a blogger, affiliate marketer, and/or a concerned citizen to actively and vocally lobby against the re-election of my local elected representatives and senators if they cast their vote for these bills.

The legislative offices have been stone-cold silent lately but we know they are tracking these signatures. I am spending my nights digging through the fine print of these bills to find the loopholes they are trying to hide. This is a grind but the potential impact on our small businesses keeps me glued to the desk every single day.

As a Utah based affiliate marketing agency, we know first hand the negative effects tax nexus has on local affiliates/bloggers. We work with retailers across the country and have met with their Legal departments regarding tax nexus. Almost 100% of the time Legal will recommend cutting ties with all affiliates within the tax nexus state (in this case Utah.) The result is loss of income/employment and no additional tax revenue for the state.

Working in the internet marketing business, the nexus law would absolutely ruin several of our customers, and it WILL NOT provide additional tax revenue to the state of Utah. I've seen it time and again that nexus laws strangle income AND tax revenue flows. No one wins when a nexus law is enacted.

In 2011 my business was shut down in California as a result of an affiliate nexus law. I have been through this before, we were told this bill was not about us, but it quickly became person upon arrival of termination letters. The odds of this bill actually changing the current federal legislation is slim to none. Affiliate marketers are not pawns to be used by Utah legislators.

Affiliate marketing single-handedly kept me from having to take out student loans during graduate school. Legislation like this is more likely to remove companies from helping Utah citizens provide for themselves rather than bringing in a revenue increase that would likely be used inefficiently by state government. Let's keep these laws out of Utah.

If Nexus is passed online retailers WILL cancel affiliate agreements and the state will not only NOT collect the sales tax, they will also lose additional income tax, sales tax and economic growth. Instead of Nexus we should be looking at reporting online sales to the individual states so they can make sure the residents report and pay with their state tax returns as they should.

As an affiliate network, we've seen these nexus bills result in online retailers terminating their relationships with affiliates in the nexus states the moment these laws get put into place. These nexus laws have massive unintended consequences and will only hurt Utah's economy.

These laws are NOT the solution to the problem.
