The superintendent officially confirmed that the existing wellness policy regarding classroom celebrations will remain unchanged. We achieved our goal of preserving these traditions by presenting the data on school lunch nutritional standards directly to the board. I will continue to monitor the committee meeting minutes to ensure this policy language …
Please sign this petition if you are in favor of keeping the wellness policy in North Haven elementary schools as is. It currently reads we are able to offer one sweet treat and one healthy option in our classrooms for celebrations. The superintendent is thinking of abolishing food all together in the classroom and taking away yet another one of the things we remember from our elementary days and looked forward to. If the real focus behind this is a healthier way of eating they should look at our towns lunch menu and Bruce's corner where every day a child could get more sugar, fat and empty calories than one cupcake or cookie at a party that happens potentially 3 or 4 times a year.
I have sent a formal letter to the superintendent detailing the inconsistencies between the proposed policy changes and the current school lunch menu standards. A meeting is being organized to present this data to the board for a full review of the wellness guidelines.

The increase in support has moved this issue into the active category for the board members. I am currently finalizing a formal letter to the superintendent to request a meeting before the next policy review session.

If they really cared about health they would change the daily lunch options. This is just overkill.

Let kids be kids! It is only a few times a year. Stop trying to take away every single fun tradition.

Total nonsense. The cafeteria food is way worse than anything parent brings in for a class party. Focus on that instead.

My daughter looks forward to these birthdays all year. One cupcake is not the end of the world. Leave the policy alone.

The school lunch menu is absolute trash compared to a treat at a party. Fix the cafeteria before worrying about a cookie.
