Don't take away lanes from Norfolk's Hampton Blvd.

I work 2 miles from home and it took me 2.5 hours to get there this morning alone with base traffic. If anything there should be a lane added.

Traveling to and from the Western Branch area of Chesapeake via Hampton Blvd for 36 years, I am amazed that removing the third lane from Hampton Blvd is even being considered. The third lane is needed at all times, but especially during the high traffic times when people are traveling to and from work. We are paying tunnel tolls so that we have more lanes for traveling beneath the Elizabeth River. With that in mind, it makes little sense to remove lanes from Hampton Blvd and increase the traffic backup.

Terrible proposal that will only exacerbate problem.

Taking away lanes from Hampton Blvd. is not the answer. Adding bike lanes is never a good idea. If the city wants to help traffic on Hampton Blvd. they can force all truck traffic from NIT to go up Terminal Blvd. to reach 64.

I work at ODU and, as a pedestrian, cross Hampton Blvd at least 4 times a week. I believe it is unreasonable to consider closing lanes unless heavy truck traffic is diverted elsewhere -- and that's not going to happen. Hampton Blvd NEEDS all of its lanes to handle the traffic it carries.

Vehicles recklessly driven by frustrated morning commuyers cut through my daughter's bus stop every morning. Her bus is tangled, therefore late, most mornings. The city needs to work with the responsible parties on the train schedule.

lets adress the issues that are bigger than reducing lanes..as discussed in this petition.

This is my take on the lane reduction plan after reading the research provided by the Larchmont-Edgewater Civic League, attending their Civic League meeting and listening to the city’s traffic engineers. http://larchmontedgewater.org/January/ I’ve also researched “road diets” and looked at the city code. I have lived in Norfolk since November 1991. From 1991 to 1995, I lived in Ghent and was stationed at the Norfolk Naval Base. I commuted mainly on Granby St. to 564 to avoid Hampton Blvd. I worked in downtown Norfolk from 1995-2012. I started commuting to Virginia Beach via Hampton Blvd. to Terminal to 64 in 2012. I moved to Larchmont in 1997 and Meadowbrook in 2000 back to Larchmont in 2013, Lochhaven in 2016 and finally to Meadowbrook last year. I have dealt with the Hampton Blvd. bridge on a daily basis since 2000. In Meadowbrook, I have to deal with people cutting through our neighborhood daily. When traffic is backed up on the Hampton Blvd. bridge, even more drivers cut through Meadowbrook. I have seen volume of all kinds on Hampton Blvd. primarily Northbound. I can’t remember when the bridge was improved and the pedestrian walkway was added. When I commuted to Virginia Beach from Larchmont from 2013-2016, I started leaving my house at 9 to wait for the many backups on the Hampton Blvd. bridge to subside. As I understand it, the Hampton Blvd. commission was formed to address and, hopefully, approve safety on this road. One the main issues that is being addressed are the many accidents which have occurred on the southbound lane of Hampton Blvd. approaching Bolling Ave. I am not aware of any issues for northbound Hampton Blvd. past Bolling, exceptfor speeders and some people’s request for a return of a stoplight at Jamestown Crescent. Try painting the lines. Don't reduce the lanes!

The traffic is already horriffic. Go back to limiting the hours for tractor trailer traffic as they did previously and it will help. If the lanes are reduced eveyone will be cutting through the neighborhoods and if you think we have problems now, wait until these cars go zig zagging around the elementary school, odu and larchmont neighborhoods. Get rid of the tractor trailers from between 2 and 6 and I guarantee it will reduce this mess. We dont need a task force , we need to use common sense! Port traffic can loop around, but they dont need to be using hampton boulevard anyway with all the kids that are constantly gravitating around that area. Who thought it was a good idea to lift the ban anyway? It worked!!

Traffic is bad enough with the current lane set up.

The traffic here is already constantly backed up. It takes double to triple the time some days to get where you need to go already. If you reduce the lanes, traffic will only get worse.

For some reason the city has these traffic planners that forget WHY we have 4 and 6 lane divided URBAN boulevards in Norfolk with US and State route numbers. They are into "lane diets", but all they will do is make people use other streets and make it harder for us to get in and out of our neighborhoods like happens on EOV Av. and other places where they have put bike lanes in to "calm traffic".

If anything a lane should be added for bikes. Don’t take a lane away!
