People who commit crimes such as a murder (first, second and third degree) should not have the option of parole or getting out early for good behavior.

It is not just a matter of punishment for these individuals but also public safety.

For example, Karla Hamulka should not have been granted parole even if she did make a deal with the head of the police department to turn in her boyfriend Paul Bernardo and in return be granted parole. Neither one of them should ever be able to apply for parole.

The fact that convicts are getting out of jail for breaking the law makes this a civic issue. It has an impact on everyone in all the different communities. It is not fair that when someone breaks the law they can be done with their punishment early.

In comparison to household rules, jail time would be like getting grounded. Rarely did I ever get a grounding lifted because of good behaviour. My father always told me if I cant do the time don’t do the crime.

I chose this topic because I feel that it is something that can affect everyone in his or her lifetime. I believe that applying for Federal Parole should not be an option anymore because someone who has a history of convictions will most likely commit a similar offense. Like they say “History repeats itself”.
